Is boiled rice the same as steamed rice - light in color and sticky?

Pretty much, although a decent takeaway’s boiled rice won’t be too sticky.

But in the restaurants, you often have to ask for chopsticks, and then the people you’re with call you pretentious…

As an American Chinese, I’d say that CHinese food’s pretty filling.

Hint to home-cooking of Chinese food: if you don’t want to use MSG and there’s an Aisan food store nearby, go in and ask if they have “hon da shi” (pronounced hone dah shee). It’s a fish extract that has a similar flavor without the headaches, etc.
