I agree with your general premise. However, please explain why Dirty Dancing is such a popular hit–isn’t it basically about the statuory rape of a 15-ish year old girl by a a 30-something guy?
I don’t think “bias” means what you think it means. No one is saying you “want” this to be true, just that when one’s brain is primed to notice something, it starts to stick out, when counter examples don’t.
I mean, I didn’t “want” Mazdas to be particularly popular, but once I bought them they were everywhere. That’s confirmation bias.
Wikipedia says the character was 18 in the movie and Jennifer Grey was 26 in real life.
I “fell victim to media bias” not “confirmation bias” as you keep parroting. I don’t know why you persist in ignoring what i write.
You researched it for me and now i know that the media likes to promote cases involving gorgeous women. THANKS.
The most high profile case i know involved Mary Kay Letourneau. She appeared on Larry King live. She had an affair with a 12 yr old boy who she is now married to. She was also very good looking.
The OP’s definition of “always hot” is questionable.
It doesn’t matter a whit that they put out, if they can’t first catch his eye, and get him interested. If they look like his Mom, no amount of sex is going to get make up for that.
It’s your confirmation bias not media bias. The media reports on lots of ugly women but you “aren’t curious enough” to read them - you only like the hotties.
Nobody is ignoring what you wrote, but several people are trying to explain that what you wrote is factually incorrect.
(there probably is some media bias in favor of hotties, too)
Here’s another thought. If we’re talking about high school boys, they’re already pretty aware about who’s hot and who’s not. Thus, if they “got lucky” with the hot teacher, they are more likely to tell their friends and whoever else will listen. This increases the probability of an authority figure finding out and taking action. They’re probably much more secretive if it’s with the not-so-hot teacher.
Is female teachers having sex with their middle/high school students a fairly recent thing or has it been going on for years and years and it’s just recently making the news instead of being hushed up? I know there’s been warnings and stuff about male teachers hitting on female students for years. Hell, when I went through Instructor Training in the CG, there was even a class on how to avoid situations where you could be accused of Sexual Harassment.
I bet it’s because the boys talk about the hot ones, and therefore get caught, while the boys boinking ugly old Lunch Lady Doris keep their mouths shut out of fear of ridicule, and therefore don’t get caught so often.
I think we’re “ignoring what you write” because you’re not making sense.
Confirmation bias doesn’t mean you’re a bad person in any way. We’re not accusing you of lying or of making things up. Confirmation bias just means that you remember things in a particular way. If you see 20 news stories about teachers and all you remember are 5 that features hot teachers, then that’s confirmation bias.
We know it’s not media bias, because we’re finding all those other stories. In fact, we’re finding those other stories on the same page you just pointed to. Their pictures were there for you to see. What you remember is the hot one.
To answer the OP’s question in one sentence.
The boys dont brag about screwing the less attractive ones, thus nobody finds out.
It would be if that were the case, but you don’t know that it is the case. He may well have seen the 5 “hot teacher” stories and not seen the other 15.
Yes, you’re finding those stories because you’re looking for them. The OP is not seeking these stories. As to the ones on the same page, seeing them requires taking action to scroll through the list, which the OP apparently did NOT do – he even said “I didn’t see those other pictures. But the original picture was the one the website chose as their main feature.” He also said “But i just wasn’t curious enough to investigate more cases other than what i casually see presented in the media.”
I think you ARE ignoring what he wrote. Maybe it doesn’t make sense to you that someone wouldn’t dig around to find more of these stories the way you did. But you have no way of knowing that he did see the other stories, and are dismissing his protestations that in fact he did not.
Except that after that he modified his position by saying that the teachers are “usually” hot, not “always”. Which suggests he’s still only really seeing the pictures he expects to see.
He only likes stories about hot teachers that screw teenage boys, we get it. If the thread is only about which news stories happen to catch Gorilla’s eye it’s incredibly dull. We know that in reality the media covers stories about hot teachers, stories about average looking teachers and stories about gross teachers. It doesn’t matter if Gorilla doesn’t remember the ugly ones or if he honestly never saw them. The point is everyone else saw them because they’re out there and easy to catch in the media.
I stand corrected, though I meant in general, most are not 12. Mary Kay to me comes off as average. Debra Lafave was hot!
The ones that get the best media attraction are either hot or especially egregious. Sure, less attractive and less salacious ones get reported, too, but those don’t get very popular. I’m sure you don’t know anything about the one that happened around here with a average looking school nurse and an 18 year old student she had an affair with. (I know because I knew her.) It was in the news, but it didn’t get very far.
If you are a reader of Fark.com you would find the thread title laughable.
Fark submitters tend to get a kick out of the less than attractive teachers boinking their students. So you get to see plenty of stories wherein the ugly ones get busy with their students.
Heck, I’d say it’s about four uglies to every one hottie.
When you’re fully of hormones you’ve not been near a vagina for 13 years, many teachers would appear hot.
