I see that. My point is that if he honestly never saw them, confirmation bias could not apply.
If you check out the linked article in the OP it has a slide show of various teachers involved in sex scandals with their students. I realize there’s no objective measure of beauty, after all, her knees might be too sharp, but after looking through the slide show I am of the opinion that most of the women teachers they have photos of are attractive. But there were a few who weren’t all that great looking and one who I considered rather homely. Of the male teachers there was only one who I thought was better than average looking.
Mary Kay Letourneau is probably the poster child for women teachers having affairs with their students and she was an attractive woman. I suspect that the OP doesn’t have a pre-existing blindness all his own. I suspect it’s more likely that the public likes to consume salacious content and offering us photos of attractive female teachers fits the bill.
In your Other example of this. I didn’t find her very attractive, and I’ve been looking at women for 60 years. So, she was blonde. Is that all it takes for you to say “HOT!”
Meredith Powell (your second link) is *extremely *hot. If you’re not interested in women who look like that, that’s great news for me. As long as they’re not interested in teenage boys.
It probably doesn’t help that a lot of the “sex scandal teacher” photos are under less than flattering conditions (i.e. mug shots).
While I’ve seen photos of unattractive teachers charged with crimes, the media really only dwells on the attractive ones. Gotta keep people watching and stir up those “She’s a child molester” vs “I wish she was molesting ME when I was 14!” debates to keep the story fresh. That’s less effective when the molester in question looks like a wildebeest.
Confirmation bias includes selective information gathering just as much as selective memory. The choice of which news stories to read may be made at a largely subconscious level, but we’re still choosing what to read. Even with TV news, we’re still choosing which channel to watch and when to go grab a beer.
Sure, but if you’re making no real attempt to follow teacher-sex new stories then the ones that’ll break through your ambivalence are the heavily promoted/saturated ones. Which are the ones with hot female teachers.
That’s not him choosing to only seek sexy-teacher stories, that’s him not choosing to seek any stories and thus not having any conflicting information when he only sees hot teachers having student sex. I wouldn’t consider that a bias on his part.
Well, also, I suspect that women teachers with an interest in teenagers don’t teach for 20 years, and then suddenly develop an attraction to teens, and are even less likely to repress an attraction for decades, then suddenly give in, because impulse control usually improves with age. The teachers who are likely to do this are going to be young teachers, because they have the poorest impulse control, and if they are relatively new to the profession, may still identify with the students to an extent, and with the faculty less. Because schools crack down on this, teachers get caught before they’ve done this too many times-- female teachers particularly, because it seems that they get into relationships with students, rather than trading blow-jobs for grades, which is what seems to happen with men. There may even be a few teachers who went into the profession because they intend to prey on teens, although I think they’re in the minority.
At any rate, women are more likely to be what people would describe as “hot” in their 20s and early 30s, than they are when they are in their 50s.

BTW: I worked in a high school when the Mary Kay Letourneau story broke. All the teachers I worked with were saying things like “Dating a student? Oh, ick.” “How gross!” They couldn’t think of anything that was less of a turn-on than the thought of a high school student.
If you read Huffington Post or a similar site that covers cases like this, whatever all those sites are, you will see at least 80% are NOT attractive AT ALL.
It seems like a very few are very, very attractive and the rest are dumpy. I think in many cases, they are probably not attractive enough to hold the attention of most adult men and seek out kids they can manipulate who can benefit from 1. having sex at all and 2. the novelty of a borderline “MILF”
There’s also the ones who are relatively young, but not super attractive but might be seen as “hot” just because young women are seen that way regardless. So if you are 16 and have a 23 year-old teacher, she’s going to be hot compared to the middle aged lesbian teachers you are used to.
Kirk Douglas writes about an affair with his high school teacher in his book The Ragman’s Son. Even sixty years later he looked back on that affair with great affection. IIRC he credited her for his early interest in literature and the arts. A lot of people don’t know that Douglas graduated from St. Lawrence University.

And of course, in general, 14 year old girls have no interest in 14 year old boys, much preferring boys at least two years older than themselves.
I know when I was 14, I spent plenty of time lusting after female teachers, and I’m sure most of them were not conventionally “hot”.
The teacher in the OP is from Utah, where I grew up. I saw the picture in the Salt Lake Trib, and almost wrote a similar OP, here’s another hot teacher arrested.
I’ll willingly admit to confirmation bias. I click on links with attractive women or which show titties more than those with frumpy, fat or flat.
