It takes me about 10 minutes to scroll to the bottom of a thread.
I have not installed anything new on my computer.
I have ran my anti-virus, disc defrag, scandisk, Dr. Watson, re-loaded Windows 98 and I am going mad.
Any ideas would be welcome.
It seems to be fine on programs outside of the net and gets slower the longer the thread or material on a page and has been going on for about 3 days.
H.D.
Dr Watson on Win 98 ?! Hmmm…
How are you scrolling? Are you using the mouse wheel, dragging the scrollbar, or some other mechanism? The answer might give us some clues. E.g. the mousewheel needs cleaning…(would be strange since scrolling works fine in other applications than the browser, if I understand you correctly).
Are you using IE? Do you have “smooth scrolling” turned on?
In IE, go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced. Then under the “Browsing” heading, un-check “Use smooth scrolling.” (It’s the last entry in that section.) This sequence should work for both IE 5.x and 6.
I’ve found smooth scrolling to be very slow. It would be strange if you haven’t had problems before, and it somehow just suddenly appeared 3 days ago, but it’s painless to check, so worth a try.
