Why is paisley the "standard" print for bandana's?

I cover my hair on weekends, why fuss with it if I don’t have to? As I was hiding the mess I wondered why most of the bandana’s I own have that standard paisley print. How did this come to be the norm?

so you found a girl who thinks really deep thoughts. what’s so amazing about really deep thoughts? Tori Amos

I don’t know, but now that I’ve read your question I’m not going to be able to sleep until I know the answer.

Paisley bandanas aren’t really the norm, worldwide (Cambodians and Palestinians seem to go for the Italian restaurant tablecloth pattern, while the Nepalese and Tibetans seem to go for bold solids in yellow and orange.)

The paisley ones are what most of us consider “cowboy style” bandanas; which brings to mind some disturbing incongruities: Tom Mix in Paisley? Roy Rodgers in Paisley? John Wayne in Paisley??? Very distubing, indeed!
