WHY is there only 1 season of ANTM out on DVD???

We are now in the NINTH season of America’s Next Top Model. (Well, you know… season… cycle… whatever.) And there’s only ONE cycle out on DVD. And THAT came out a YEAR ago!!! For the love of God, what is WRONG with these people? WHY the hell aren’t there more out??? Don’t they know that I need to watch this show in order to SURVIVE and find meaning in life? Do they think I’m going to be content with trying to find reruns on VH1? Don’t they realize how many people would buy more DVD’s? WHAT is going on? Does anyone know???

The CW distributes the show in the U.S.; send them off a letter. Rally up your friends and get them to the same. If enough fans show interest, the networks and producers may be moved to act.

(Also, you may be in luck; with the potential producer’s / writer’s / screen guild strike coming up, reality TV shows like America’s Next Top Model would be one of the surviving programs to stay on the air.)

In general, reality shows on DVD don’t sell that well, at least compared to real shows.

Cycles Eight and Nine are available to download on iTunes. Episodes may also be watched online for free on the official website.

I too am outraged at the lack of ANTM DVD goodness. For goodness’ sake, Project Runway already has two seasons out on DVD and they haven’t even aired season four yet! Step up, CW!

On another note, I love watching the Cycle 1 episodes and seeing how ghetto the photoshoots used to be. I was crushed when CW took all of the old cycles off of their website once they switched from UPN. And I will be continually annoyed at how they give in to pressure to keep the photos on the site totally clean, resulting in face close-ups of what are supposed to be full body shots, or the complete removal of all of the “Killed by a Model” photos. (Which were pretty much the best thing ever, IMO)

many shows only got the first season released. Malcolm in the Middle and The Apprentice are two others that come to mind. If season 1 comes out and nobody buys it, or it cost more time and money than it was worth to release, chances are they won’t KEEP releasing the seasons.

I still gotta wonder who on earth is actually buying season 9 of Roseanne, or season 5 of Dukes of Hazzard…I mean, those shows had charm and memories, but isn’t there a point where the watcher says “that was a nice trip down memory lane, but I’ve already spent $200 on these discs, and I’ve seen enough”?

All I can tell you is that it’s not that hard to find those reruns on VH1. The run about thirty episodes weekly. I know this because my wife has, more than once, loaded up the DVR with ANTM marathons that she has already seen a half dozen times. So if you need your fix…

She gets real, real excited when they show one of the British versions.

whats the story on project runway anyways? I don’t have TV because I got in a very strongly worded fight with a cable company and this has been my failed attempt at sticking it to the man. The emptiness in my life may be filled by queens throwing hissy fits. (well more so than my average day to day life in SF) Last I saw was Jeremy’s win

oh, and WHERE THE HELL IS MY CHIFFON???!

Yeah, apparently, the music for Malcolm in the Middle costs too much to obtain.

That show is on in marathon mode on either MTV or VH1 at least 3 days a week. I’m sure you can catch it there.

I mean complete season marathons.

I hate that show except for the one black girl.

lobstermobster, have you seen this article in New York magazine? It’s got some lovely dish on PR.

I was wondering that, too, and wondering if this made me officially low brow.

Maybe the answer is that they show it on MTV or VH1 every other weekend in marathons? I’ve actually seen a lot more of them that way, so it looks like I won’t be needing them on DVD.

I would like for Project Runway’s third season to be coming out some time before November.

I’m addicted to ANTM; I know. It’s very sad. It just seems… odd that there aren’t more seasons out on DVD. The show itself is so popular. I guess it will always be one of life’s great mysteries, like the source of that weird noise somewhere in the alley behind my house that always sounds like someone is repeatedly kicking a large cow.

I was thinking that as well. I’m a huge ANTM fan and have my DVR set to record it whenever it’s on, and I think I still have a couple entire seasons saved up. It’s not a difficult show to find.

Also, are there any reality shows that get comprehensive DVD releases? I know that for the longest time the only season of the Real World you could find was season one, and it wasn’t that great because they’d lost the rights to use the original music.

That’s really odd, cuz I had the first season box of MITM signed by They Might Be Giants, who did the music for the show, after a concert and John had no idea it was even out, and asked the other John if they were getting royalties for it, to which he replied “nope, they screwed us again.”

Maybe after that they decided they actually wanted to get paid for season 2, and THAT’s why it wasn’t released?

I too am outraged that only cycle one of ANTM is available on DVD. I need more Miss J, dammit!!!

Good point. I was looking for RW San Diego a while ago because I enjoyed it (guiltily!) when it was on.

Oh, girl. Me too. More Twiggy, too. Definitely more Twiggy. (Though Janice Dickinson was so fun to hate!)

Oh, another thought: If you guys enjoy America’s Next Top Model, check out fourfour. Every Monday, Rich (the blogger) posts a recap of the previous week’s episode, complete with screencaps and animated GIFs. Regular features include the Crying Count and Pretty Party (although it’s being called the “Questionable Beauty Party” this cycle), and he busts out the Twig-o-Meter for special occasions. I and many other readers don’t consider our ANTM experience complete without his review. It’s seriously funny stuff, I highly recommend it.
