Why is Vaseline Hair Tonic worth so much?

If you look up Vaseline Hair Tonic on eBay, it is going for $10 - $15 a bottle or more, with some people selling it by the case. Some of the auctions note that it is discontinued or no longer made. My question is, is there some alternative use for it, or are there just that many people with slicked back hair that are willing to pay well above the original price to maintain a supply of it?

My wife sells on ebay, and on one of their discussion boards there was a thread about it. Supposedly the Big Lots chain has purchased the last remaining suply of it and are selling it on clearance. People are buying it up for .50 - $1.00 a bottle and making a fortune on ebay from it.

What gives? I think it’s more of an IMHO than a factual question, I hope it’s in the right forum.

Well, now I want to buy Vaseline Hair Tonic.

Thanks!

Bumping, because now I’m seized with the urge to know. And also to buy some Vaseline Hair Tonic from eBay, along with some Crystal Pepsi (which Guinastasia mentioned in another thread as being available there).
