I realize the Pit is probably not the place for this, but can someone on the right (Shodan, UrbanArchetype, Damuri) explain to me in clear language without generalities exactly the scandal is regarding the Clinton’s foundation, and what evidence there is out there to support this claim. I get that the wikileaks show that she is horribly corrupt and awful, but I am honestly unclear about the specifics and would appreciate someone explaining it to me clearly and concisely.
Near as I can tell the issue is that Bill Clinton was given large amounts of money for speaking fees, and that many of these people also gave large amounts of money to the foundation. While the speaking fees are a little unseemly, they don’t seem to be much different than what many other politicians do after they leave office. And I don’t see why the connection between the speaking fees and the donations is scandalous. It seems reasonable that those who wanted Clinton to speak at some event might be the same sort that would want to donate to their foundation, or that in negotiating speaking arrangement Clinton would advocate supporting his charity. I would assume that the issue is some quid pro quo for the money given to Clinton for his speaking fees, but that would be true even without the foundation donations. So what exactly is the scandal?
