Why say it? Just fucking do it!

On this forum and in other venues I see/hear people saying “That is all I have to say on this topic” or actually write “That is all I have to say on this subject” - now I don’t mind them saying or writing this but I don’t understand it, why not just shut up. Especially when a few minutes later they come back and write “just one more thing” or say “just one more thing” WTF

Well, I don’t think I can say much on th…

(No. I won’t do it. Free bump for you.)

Dude. You’re all mixed up. You start out with the See/Hear pattern, then quote on a Hear/See pattern, then you flib back to See/Hear. Honestly, if this is the best pit thread you can throw together today then I’d say you’re having a pretty good day. get out and enjoy it and leave your poor computer alone.

“That’s all I got to say 'bout that” --Forrest Gump

One more thing…

Unions suck.
This nonsequiter brought to you by the man in the tin foil hat.

I agree. I feel the same way about “needless to say”. If it’s needless to say it, then why are you saying it? And what actually tends to bug me the most about that is that usually the thing that was “needless to say” is not nearly as obvious as the speaker thought.

“My boss was really bugging me, so needless to say, I threw myself onto the ground and wiggled around naked in a puddle of jam.”

What, not everybody does this?

No wonder they were looking at me funny.

What about those that use acronyms, and the next line after that, is the meaning of the acronym? Why not just cut out the acronym?
“IANAD, but IAAI (I am not a doctor, but I am an idiot)”
Kinda pointless to put IANAD if you’re just going to spell it out anyway.

I view it as a verbal tic, and I correct it with my two-by-four.

Let me demonstate…

I think ‘needless to say’ means the same as ‘as you might expect’.

I hate, hate, hate it when people preface someting with “What I was going to say is…” This happens ALL THE TIME when people have their hands raised in class, and they get called on.

Everything about that statement bugs me. The verb tense. The fact that they have to say that they are going to say something. The fact that I do it too sometimes. Grrrr!

Needless to say, you might expect IHTT ( I Hate This Thread).

I can understand that. But I feel that it is expectable if someone gets interrupted and wishes to bring the attention back the the subject previously being discussed.

I have nothing to contribute to this thread.

Needless to say, that’s all I have to say about this subject.

One more thing…

I have nothing more to say.

Not a lot of Columbo fans in this thread, I see.

Ah, yes. The 1996 Summer Olympics. Closing ceremonies. There were some athletes doing some incredible things, accompanied by some very nice music. Well, woulda been nice, if not for the idiotic commentators yammering through the whole thing. Explaining every damn move with the most inane comments imaginable. They just would not shut up!

Finally, they did shut up. We were left with the mere enjoyment of watching athletes doing their thing. It needed no commentary at all.

I will say it again: It needed no commentary at all.

My thoughts were confirmed: Right then a commentator piped up “This needs no commentary at all.” To which the other replied “That’s right, Bill, it explains itself.” Then they went on for another 10 minutes about how self-explanatory the images were.

Fucknuts.
