Why should a sexual assault be considered worse than any other assault/battery? They both involve violence. Why is getting attacked until you are almost dead not worse than getting raped? It is my understanding that during a rape/sexual assault the victim can have an orgasm, why doesn’t the victim just relax and enjoy the “assault” (how much of an assault can it be if the victim is coming?) as much as possible? I have never heard of another type of victim of violent crime have orgasms during an assault.

I don’t think rape is worse than an assault; it depends on what happens during the rape and what happens during the assault. I’d say that a rape where the victim is physically restrained but otherwise not hurt much (besides the tremendous emotional pain, obviously) would not be as bad as getting beaten until you suffer permanent brain damage. It’s all a matter of degree; some rapes will be worse than some assaults, and vice versa.

Forgive me if I disagree. I think that it would be very doubtful that someone who is raped would have an orgasm. Furthermore, if this unlikely event happened, how would this imply consent?

Although this is a bad analogy, it’s like getting robbed; even if you enjoyed the ‘rush’ of adrenal, you didn’t enjoy the experience.
I’d say it isn’t like getting robbed or like assault, because there is a psychological component to rape and probably psychological repercussions for the victim. That isn’t necessarily the case when somebody is “just” being beat up.

I was actually ready to read and discuss this topic at first, when I assumed it was an intelligently phrased question about why rape is considered such an extremely serious crime at this particular time in Western History compared to earlier or in other cultures. Or why it brings on such an emotional response even compared with murder. But this:
