It seems like car salespeople are almost exclusively male. Is there any legitimacy/purpose to this?
Well, they may just not get many female applicants, but, I suspect that most women will deal with a male salesperson, but a significant number of men (and maybe women) don’t like dealing with a female salesperson when it comes to cars.
You’d have thought men would be suckers for female sale staff…
I suppose cher is right, though.
There’s a local DC car dealership with a female sales manager (a Lexus dealership). On her radio ads, she makes the statement, “At Lexus of Silver Spring, I make the deals!” But she sounds kinda defensive, as if she’s been challenged in the past.
“Pff. What does a CHICK know about CARS?”
I guarantee you that’s a lot of it.
Have you considered the hours worked by car salesmen. Women often choose jobs with less hours, but a car salesman will commonly work 60-70 hours per week. It’s not exactly a job women are fighting to get.
As of 2001, only 7.7 percent of sales staff at franchised auto dealerships in the U.S. were women.
