The pilot from that Jet Blue flight still hasn’t been named.
Let’s be honest - if you or I were on that plane and became “distraught” and started banging on the cockpit door babbling crazy things, our names would be all over the media.
I have no axe to grind here but I hate when different rules apply. Why does this guy get a pass?
The guy gets a pass because he hasn’t been charged with a crime yet. At this point it’s being treated as a medical problem.
Three weeks ago an American Airlines flight attendantalso had a breakdown, started babbling crazy things and had to be restrained. It was also considered to be a medical problem, and I have yet to see her name all over the media.
Probably because there is a reasonable suspicion that it may be caused by a serious mental illness that’s not his fault, eg Schizophrenia can appear suddenly in people over a period of days, who have had no prior symptoms.
Sorry but I’m cynical. That other incident was also an airline employee. I stand by my claim that that you or I would have been identified in the media even if it were deemed a medical “incident”.
Give me lunch to google for other incidents and I’m sure I’ll find one.
I see he’s being named now anyway - Mods feel free to close this.
JetBlue has now confirmed the pilot’s name. Just because we live in an age of instant communication doesn’t mean you don’t want to evaluate the situation and make sure you understand exactly what is going on before you release personal information.
Look at the current thread about people tweeting the address of the wrong Zimmerman.
No double standard here, just sensible caution.
