I know a few people who only voted for Trump because Hillary was “A criminal and liar”. I told them about Trump University, and how he bribed the Florida AG to avoid consequences. They weren’t interested. Hillary has been acquitted of every allegation ever thrown at her, and Trump still has pending cases against him. Did this ridiculous double standard cost her the election?
Of course it did. The problem is that the two parties have different goals:
The goal of the Democratic Party is to try to elect someone good enough to do the job.
The goal of the Republican Party is to destroy their opponent, the worthiness of their own candidate notwithstanding as long as he, with the Party’s assistance, accomplish the goal.
It doesn’t matter what Trump does or says, as long as it distracts or in any other way hinders The Enemy. His actions don’t have to be honorable, moral or ethical-They have to distract and destroy. Time spent investigating him is time not spent promoting the Democratic candidate-all to the good.
The Democrats might have been able to defeat their opponents, but only by using their methods. Would it have been worth the cost?
