Why was fatgail banned? I don’t remember seeing her do anything banworthy in any thread.

I think the mods usually prefer you email them rather than post a thread.
That’s usually when a poster is “disappeared”. I think bannings are perfectly legitimate questions to ask. But what do I know? I’m not a junior mod.

She was a sock puppet for former poster jarbabyj/tinyham. Who, ironically, was never banned (although now is, of course). Pretty stupid.
P.S. We definitely do prefer that people handle such questions via email or PM. However, I’d gotten enough of both about this particular poster that I figured I’d make it easier on everyone and just post to this thread.

And I will, if I have these questions in the future, email. I know I’ve seen a lot of “Why was X banned?” threads before and didn’t remember seeing a mod/admin ask that we email instead.

Damn. I remember jarbabyj from a ChiDope she helped organize about five or six years ago, which was close enough to my house that I was able to get my wife there in her wheelchair. I wondered what had happened to her; I’d missed the name change, too.

Well, you did ask us. Honestly, I rather enjoyed her, and thought she was quite pleasant. I understand that she broke the rules. But can’t we ever move on to the stage where we forgive and forget for past failings? I’m serious, you guys seem all wrapped up in strictly upholding all these rules so strictly, doesn’t it get to a point where new and interesting members are more important to keeping this place interesting and fun? As well as attracting new members with new content?
I dunno. I’m just weird I guess.
By her own admission, she changed her username to “get a fresh start.” Since that failed, it seems reasonable to assume the sock was to have served the same purpose.
I agree with you to a certain extent. I would prefer to see someone like jarbabyj/tinyham/fatgail receive a month’s suspension as opposed to a banning. I understand that it is a betrayal of trust to create a sock and that the administration tries to foster a real community here which is undermined by deception, but a lifetime ban is kind of extreme to my mind.

If you read the link I posted, you’ll see she already tried this once before. The did, in fact, give her a break and allow to her stay with a name change. That, apparently, wasn’t good enough for her, so…buh bye.
