Why was this thread closed?

No, this one should be moved. Thanks for reporting it!

I have to say, I think the mods jumped the gun on these. There are a lot of MPSIMS threads that ‘could’ be closed, but as long as someone – anyone – finds them interesting enough to make a post, I think they should be open.

It’s not like we’re in danger of running out of space or processing power, right? It’s not like we’re holding post parties (which I STILL MISS) or anything. We’re just chatting about nonsense.

Chatting about nonsense is an important – no, critical – part of the SDMB experience. Until Cafe Society was split off, MPSIMS had practically as many posts as the entire rest of the board.

Get that, Mods? Nonsensical crap is popular here. Stop closing it! So what if the OP is starting a bunch of stupid threads? They may enjoy watching the thread grow and evolve, without affecting the direction by participating. How is that harming the rest of us?

This is not a directive to avoid fluff in MPSIMS. I’m an MPSIMS Mod, so I know that stuff is popular and I enjoy it myself. And we do let pretty much anything go in there.

Why was this thread closed?

When I first read the OPs questions I did think that they were sort of “strange” and even having three dogs I did not respond but when I went back I was enjoying reading other posters responses. Most of them were pretty funny.

I understand the OP did not return and has a habit of it but if the thread is continuing and posters are responding should it not remain open. I think at the very least it could have been moved to MPSIMS and let people continue to speculate on what their dog “thinks”.

Since the mods seem to be fed up with the original OP are all of his/her threads going to be closed since he does not return or are to mundane?

I too was under the impression that this is a forum for asking questions, and that there was no onus or obligation for the creator of an OP to have any further part. There are some people who seem to think that unless you are willing to debate your question, you have no right to ask it, when really all the OP’er might be trying to do is get people to discuss a topic that interests them.

This has been (briefly) asked and answered in this thread .

It would be nice, though if the OP bothered to stay online long enough to actually read the responses others have posted.

This sounds like you are saying that the OP must stay by his/her computer until people have stopped responding, merely out of common courtesy…or am I missing something?

 You can tell who *reads *which threads? (As opposed to replying to them.)

And we have another one…Anyone have experience buying from irotors? - In My Humble Opinion - Straight Dope Message Board

He asked if anyone had used a certain online website. Czarcasm locked the thread. Now c’mon, locking a thread for assuming he’s not going to return isn’t fair. Even if he doesn’t return, why would someones response warrent another response from him?
ETA and 8 minutes from OP to locked, must be a record.

It’s got to be. Crikey, that is staggeringly keen! Anyone get the feeling Czarcasm might be a parking ticket inspector in RL?

But this is like giving someone a ticket before the even get out of the car.

Well, isn’t that what they’d all like to do? It would make their job so much more easier!

My precognitive powers frighten me at times. I knew the name of the poster before I even clicked that link.

But, the question we need to ask is, would it have been closed, if someone else had made the OP?

You’re missing something in that nobody has ever said anything even a little bit like that.

And the award for Most Idiotic Moderation goes to…

Let’s say you are at a party. Someone comes up to your group and says, “What is your opinion of the current state of affairs in Iran?”, then walks away before hearing the responses. This person then goes up to another group and says, “Why are watemelons green on the outside and red on the inside?”, and walks away from that group without participating in the conversation or even listening to the answers. This continues throughout the night. How does this look to you?

Well, what exactly were you saying, as I wasn’t the only one with one of these  ?

But we are not at a party. We are not even in the same time zones, in some cases!
