Why would a naija man not want to comment on a Nigerian woman's beauty?

Before I start, I’d like to say that I don’t know what “naija” means, so I really, really hope it’s not an offensive word. If it is, please excuse my ignorance.

I was looking up information about gender roles in Nigeria (btw, if you know of a good website about that I’d love to hear about it) when I stumbled across this article. The first sentence, in particular, stood out:

I know next to nothing about Nigeria, so this comment completely confused me. I clumsily attempted to find out what “naija” was via Google, but (probably owing to my poor searching skills) I didn’t find anything. So, could somebody explain why a naija man would not want to comment on a Nigerian woman’s beauty?
I also had another question:

Does he want to find fault in her beauty for cultural reasons or is this just something he does?

Well, I don’t know, but you might be able to get the gist here.

As far as I understand it, “Naija” is a modern synonym for Nigeria (and “naija” = Nigerian) used by some Nigerians as an alternative that breaks away from the colonial connotations of the British-coined “Nigeria”.
