Why Would Anyone Want Hard Cookies?

There’s a chocolate chip cookie by Keebler that comes in standard (hard) or soft versions. Why would anyone want their cookie to be hard rather than soft? They like chipping their teeth on it or have it crumble in their hand as they eat it?

I prefer hard, I like to think they are crispy. I am a cookie dunker and crispy just dunks better.

Sometimes I want soft and gooey. Sometimes I want a real saliva-sucker.

I think the key point is there’s a difference between “hard” and “stale” - few people want a stale cookie, but a crisp cookie can be pretty nice.

My Nana used to make Tirggel so hard and tough you could chew on them for hours.

Me too. If I just want a cookie, then soft is better. But if I want milk and cookies, then crispy is better.

The soft versions make me think they’ve been left out on the counter in a humid environment too long…yeech!
I’ll take the original (blue) Chips-Ahoy! any day over the chewy (red) ones.

My mom prefers hard cookies. She won’t even eat any that are soft any chewy anymore.

She is a dunker and likes to dunk, in coffee at least. But I swear I’ve never seen her actually dunk a cookie so I don’t know why she prefers them crispy.

Don’t ever eat biscotti.

My teeth are fine, I chew things much crunchier than crunchy cookies. What I prefer depends on what mood I’m in.

I just ate a biscotti today.

They can be hard but brittle with it, that’s the way with biscuits in the UK.

I prefer hard/crispy

There is a bakery in my town that makes hard dark chocolate cookies with nuts perfect for dunking in coffee. They are so hard you can not bite them. A hammer works best to get them into manageable size pieces.

Soft cookies straight from the oven are one thing.

But the soft packaged cookies you get from the store? No thanks. I prefer my cookies WITH OUT the chemical aftertaste.

If you like to dip or dunk, hard cookies are the way to go.

Moving this over to CS.

Because Keebler soft chocolate chip cookies taste terrible. Really, they are awful cookies, flipped with a harsh chemical flavor and no taste of chocolate at all.

Stick to Freihoffer’s, the perfect expression of the form.

I never like them soft. Crisp is always the way to go.

You should try a gingernut sometime. They can be a tooth-breaker.

Yep, if they’re soft because they haven’t cooled yet, and are going to be crispy later - that’s good eating. If they’re soft because they’ve got gelatin in them: blech. You can keep those nasty things.

Full disclosure: my favorite chocolate chip cookie is Chips Ahoy.

Oooo, Freihoffer’s! We used to get those when we lived in Syracuse. They really are yummy.

On a related rant, why would anyone want soft frosting? A couple months ago I bought a couple packages of butter cream frosted cupcakes because they look so pretty, but became so annoyed at the messiness of the frosting that I stopped purchasing them.

I agree with this 100%. I think the hard ones are geered more toward those who dunk in milk, tea, coffee or whatever. I think of them as akin to a graham cracker.
