It’s been horrible the last day for me. So many time-outs.

Causality loop?

I seem to have identified an additional problem.
I was seeing the same timeouts, but as of about 5 minutes ago it’s fine. Server got rebooted or something?
OK, it’s not just me.
Seems to be working at the moment. Hope that’ll last.
I didn’t do it!
Yeah, it’s been intermittently slow over the last 24 hours. My assumption was that someone was DoSing the place, and the attacker was moving around or changing the attack in some way, in turn making it hard for the provider to block it. But, it could have been a backend problem of some sort, too.
I dunno, it’s my day job to track down what’s happening when these kind of systems go wonky. So, without any access, I sit here and speculate what could be the cause. Sometimes I write songs about it while I wait for the page to load or error out.
Some one’s DoSing the Do-ope
Someone’s DoSing it I know-ow-ow
Someone’s DoSing the Do-ope
That’s why it’s so dang slow
Yeah, it’s not great, and based on circumstantial evidence.
Slow, slow, slow for the past 24 hours.
I have reported the problem.

It’s really awful, what’s happening. When I can get to the site, 1 try in 5, one click on any thread and…timed out!
Ugh!
I saw what you did there.

Why did you jinx us?
I started getting server errors and timeouts about 2AM last night (Chi time). They now seem to have escalated.
I haven’t been online much over the weekend so I don’t know about the last 24 hours, but periods of slowness, server errors, and gateway timeouts have been occurring intermittently for months now. This certainly gives an incredibly unprofessional impression of the system management that is supposed to be responsible for the SDMB infrastructure and really makes the site unfriendly and discouraging. I know TubaDiva cares and is reporting the current issue, but one gets the impression that the ownership doesn’t care if the place goes to hell. That may not be at all correct, but that’s how it feels when problems like this go unresolved for a long time. I suppose one can be more sympathetic if this is the result of denial-of-service attacks from someone with a grudge, but those should have been tracked down long ago as that’s a pretty serious federal crime.
