and the rest of the time is almost unuseably slow. I just managed to get this one post to go through.
ETA: Briefly better now. I wonder if the problem is related to the often-sketchy ads that this place sometimes serves up, even if they’re not actually being displayed.

I guess that I might actually have to do something other than surf the SDMB this afternoon!
Yesterday I was like, ‘Well, it’s a free website so we can expect the occasional problem.’ Then I thought, ‘Hey, wait a minute! I’m paying for this!’
Didn’t last. 504 and 502 errors, a few minutes ago.
– on the other hand, this post also had an error, and the board I think prevented me from posting it twice. Maybe. Apologies if it does show up twice, I didn’t know whether it had gone through the first time.
If you get a timeout after posting, the post has usually gone through, in my experience. And Lord knows I’ve had enough experience in the past few months. This is beyond fucking annoying.
I haven’t seen this many server errors since the last time I tried to play tennis.
Ok that’s now a third code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct, resulting in forfeiture of game, set and match.
And $10,000 fine.
Just glad to see it was not just me, all the timeouts I mean.
It’s literally minute-to-minute… it will be working fine, then not working at all, then working, etc. Have the Mods said what’s wrong yet?

I keep another window open to check if my posts have gotten through. They usually do, which explains all the double posts.

On a more serious note, it’s not something that we can fix at the moderation level. I can speculate a bit, but I don’t have much more info available than you folks do at the moment. Our admin is aware of the issue, and she has contacted the tech folks. The last I heard, we were waiting for an answer back from them. When we know something useful, we’ll let you know.

I think it needs to be understood that this has been an ongoing intermittent problem for months now. IMHO, this is not an issue of a note to tech support saying “please fix this when you can, if it’s not too inconvenient”. Far be it from me to dictate how this place should be run, but in any place that I have ever worked that takes its IT mission seriously, this kind of ongoing fiasco would be an issue of “someone (or some organization, in the case of outsourcing) needs to be replaced, because they’re not doing their job”.
It’s running very responsively for me now, unlike earlier. So Powers That Be: If you fixed something, thanks! If you didn’t touch nothing, don’t start now!
