Chiming in late as usual…I just can’t keep up with the boards…
It’s possible for an employee to be reprimanded without being fired. She should be told in no uncertain terms to keep her opinions to herself. If she keeps making remarks like this, the “more ill feelings” will be widely disseminated. Not sure what you mean by “more ill feelings” if she’s fired. So she knows Spanish: that doesn’t give her license to offend people. If anything, she should be sensitive to “spic” remarks, and not wish to inflict the same insults on other people. One bigoted remark is one too many. I don’t see any excuse for her saying that.
Actually I was was referring to ill feelings if she was not fired. The likeliest outcome of complaining about it is that she gets reprimanded by her supervisor. She feels it is unjustified and resents it, as do her buddys and relatives etc. These people increase whatever feeling they already have that these pushy Jews are running everything and making trouble for anyone they don’t like. Nothing positive comes out of it.
My feeling is that the best thing for these minor annoyances is frequently to ignore them. Particularly in instances such as this one, one might hope that it was the result of a temporary emotion due to the WTC bombing and might fade somewhat over time.
Neither do I. I was referring to the likelihood of her being fired.
