Wife is suddenly getting porn requests on phone. What to do? Maybe NSFW

Today, my wife received from one number, a link to a pornhub video, an indecipherable text message, a voice message, and a picture of an old man in a towel. From another number, she received a text that just said “pegging??”. She’s never received stuff like that before. What concerns me the most is that the voice mail actually had my wife’s name in it.

We blocked both numbers. Is there anything else that should be done other than possibly changing her number?

Did you do an internet search of the phone numbers?

Was it an automated voicemail?

Does the outgoing message include your wife’s name? When you search for her number, does her name appear online?

No. I searched for her number and her first name to see if anything came up. It didn’t find anything.

It didn’t sound automated but with AI, who can tell anymore?

I’ve changed my outgoing message so it’s just the phone system recitation of my number. When I had a landline, it was unlisted. Best to your wife–I hope it stops.

That wordpegging must be a clue.

Ah! Good point about her outgoing message. I just called it and yes it does have her name. She’ll be changing that ASAP.

When I google just her number, the only hit is a Japanese children’s book with her number as its ISBN.

I agree. The voice mail (from the first pervert) said something to the effect that “I’ve never tried anything like this but would like to learn.”

Thank you. This sounds like the best way to do it.

So you didn’t do an internet search of the number’s that texted/called?

That would be the first thing I do if I get a mystery text/call. There are sites where people report and share scam numbers etc.

No. It didn’t occur to me because I was kind of freaked out. What jarred me is that one was from our state and the other was from a neighboring state.

When I did search, nothing meaningful was returned.

I looked on Urban dictionary for the word pegging.
It’s a sexual thing.
I won’t describe it. But look it up if you wanna know.

Does she have any enemies?

Only half joking.

Those calls and texts would suggest to me that her number is intentionally or accidentally associated with a personal ad somewhere.

And it might not be Google-able–e.g., ads on Craigslist use creative combos of numbers and words to list phone numbers.

I knew it was sexual and was about 90% sure I knew what it was. I was right. Since this isn’t the pit, I won’t say anything else.

Yes. I guess it’s possible that these are innocent for very low values of innocent. Whatever it is, I hope it stops.

Check the local men’s rooms to see if any graffiti artists have correlated her number with looking for a good time.

Yes, or could be malicious, hence asking about enemies. But I’d bet on it being one of the two.

Spam you should set up your phone so it goes into a black hole, don’t “hope it stops”.

I’m not sure what that means or how to do it. I’ve blocked the numbers but I don’t know how to prevent spam from callers or in iMessage.

She has no known enemies.
