That was the most UN-Christian behavior I have seen in quite some time.
We’re not ALL like that (Christians).
Really!

Wow…just…wow.
“You’re shakin up.” Jesus. The husband looked embarrassed.
How could she (republican lady) not see the correlation between what was done to African Americans and what she is doing to gays?
“It’s FREAKY” It is? Wow. 40 years ago an interracial marriage would have been considered freaky.
Someone should remind her where the bible says, “Judge not, lest ye be judged.”
I have a morbid curiosity to see this episode.
Hoo, boy but does this sound like a women I’d like to mock. What is it with black women showing up as harpies and nutcases on reality TV? The last black women on a reality TV show I had any respect for was Kim from TAR5.
That was easily the nastiest person I’ve ever seen on a reality tv show. She’d eat team road rage from TAR6 for breakfast and have room for desert.
Now, making Christian Dad dance with another man wasn’t exactly a nice thing to do, but it truly pales next to the viscous hate spewing from rich mom in every confessional and several times face to face.
Once again, we have a case of both families being more or less functional as they were. I always see aspects of each household I agree with. No computers or tv’s in kids rooms? Limiting kids access to R rated movies? Teaching and requiring good manners and maintaining a clean house? All perfectly reasonable in my view.
All those things being different in the lesbian household? Also perfectly reasonable.
The hypocrisy that both moms nearly always show–running a family differently from how I would is wrong–never ceases to amaze me.
I love black Republicans even more than regular Republicans. They show uncommon good sense.
It was implicit in her saying that she was “concerned” about a lesbian being around her daughter.
Maybe she was just worried she’d catch “the gay”…
How about pitting the producers of the show who made the match-up hoping they’d get exactly what they got?
Come on- you know they weren’t looking for a hug-n-cry, learn-n-grow episode!
I bet they probably sought out the nicest lesbians possible & the meanest Christian possible for this one.
Well, I admit I wasn’t watching too closely so I don’t have contextual clues like tone, etc, but this sounds like a bit of a stretch to me. I’d imagine that, based on the rest of her statements, she’s concerned that her daughter will think of homosexuality as normal rather than as deviant. I think she’s more concerned for her daughter’s moral health (as per her particular worldview) than sexual predation.
Fundy mom is pretty clearly an evil harpy, but I don’t think we need to put words into her mouth to make her look bad. She did a fine job of that all on her own.
I think she was being pretty obvious with her, “I’m being protective” statements. She clearly thought that her children had been put at risk by having the evil lesbian around.
However, I was pleasantly surprised at the tolerance the husband showed, even though it was clearly straining his limits; that showed more than I’d expected to see.
Unfortunately, the daughter probably has caught “the gay,” because now she’s an artist…
Well, I caught the gay last time I saw you, and now I have sex with men.
If you are looking to find Christians that don’t like homosexuals, mean and evil is pretty much all you have to pick from, in my experience.
Dewey: I don’t have a transcript, unfortunately, but the child predator comments were precipitated by Fundy Bigot Mom’s complaint that Nice Lesbian Mom should not have been permitted anywhere near Fundy Bigot Mom’s 12-year-old daughter due to the risk of sexual contact. It was a truly astounding statement.
Yeah, yeah…last time I saw you you were already four months pregnant, so I don’t wanna hear about catching the gay offa me…
You must be kidding.
That is astounding. Like I said, I wasn’t watching too closely. Wish I’d caught that snippet.
We watched it and spent much of the time screaming at the screen (this is a common practice around here). The fundy woman was just mean. And she was sheltering her kids too much. Her 16 year old couldn’t see PG-13 movies. Her homes was painfully neat and her kids appeared to do much of the work, including cleaning the bottom of the table on a daily basis. Oh, and then when they were arguing about gay marriage, the fundy was like “You only want to get married for financial reasons.” Nikki, the woman she was staying with argued about medical care and the like. My roommmate pointed out that the reason that she thought it was about money was because it seemed like that was all she was getting out her relationship.
I spent a long time in Catholic school. Isn’t the idea to love the sinner but hate the sin. (I’m not even going to bother suggesting that it’s no one’s business what your orienation is, no am I suggesting it’s a sin to be gay, as I’m not straight, just pointing out the facts.)
Argh, I thought everyone in the end was reasonable except her. Everyone tried. She was just evil.
This is a pretty good summary of what the rich Dad said, roughly that he didn’t approve of her lifestyle, but that his pastor teaches that all people desrve respect and decent treatment. This is an attitude that I would be more than happy to encounter more often.
Not even one little bit.
Should you start one, let me know.
