Wii, and videos thereupon

So…I’m liking my Wii, though I need to see about getting some actual games for it.

However, I’m trying to play videos on it.

I’ve tried some Quicktime vids, but nothing. That is particularly annoying because the manual says that it will run Quicktime files.

So, I did some looking around and found a program called Wii Video 9 by Red Kawa. In its Wii profiles we’ve got two video formats available. Mjpeg and .flv (flash video).

Mjpeg is a supremely crappy codec, both quality-wise and disk-space-efficiency-wise. But it works, technically.

The .flv files the Photo Channel doesn’t even recognize.

The SD card from our digital camera has videos and jpegs on it. Somehow, the Wii knows how to play the videos from the camera. According to Windows those are FFD Show codecs.

Anyone have any brilliant ideas? My DVD player that does Divx is now dead, so I’d like to work my way into watching downloaded videos on my Wii.

Anyone? Anyone?

Note that Quicktime isn’t a single video format, but is a “container” format – a Quicktime movie can be an AVI, a MOV, or a bunch of other different formats.

The format that the Wii supports is supposed to be that used by most digital cameras. I found a quick reference here that might work as a starting point.

I noticed this article on IGN a couple days ago. Apparently there’s a software you can download to your computer, which will allow you to stream your media to the Wii’s browser. I’m not sure how it works, or what the quality is, but it might be an option for you.
