will Athlon XP motherboard work with socket A 1.33 Athlon ?

i need a new motherboard. i need one with ATA 133 cuz my new hard drive likes to crash on my older mobo, but works fine on newer computer my cousin got.

but money is tight right now, and i don’t really need speed, so i would stick with my 1.33ghz Athlon if it can be made to work with a good new motherboard.

athlon XP motherboards seem to be backward compatible with socket A ( which i got ) but, i am NOT SURE. after all, isn’t XP processor slightly different ? will it REALLY work ?

I’m running an old Abit KT7 board with 1 Ghz T-bird. With my 1.1 revision board, the Athlon XP will not work on my board. But it would run if it were a newer board. So I’m about 90% sure that it will work.

Yes, a AlthonXP motherboard will work just fine with a socket A Althon (T-bird) or Duron processor.
I have built about half a dozen AMD powered computers for people in the last year, all useing AlthonXP motherboards with a mix of Althon,AlthonXP and Duron processors in them and all worked with out any problems. You will get the best performance for your money if you use a motherboard with the NVidia NForce or NForce 2 system chipset.
My personal system is a MSI K7N420D PRO (NForce chipset) motherboard and a AMD AlthonXP 1600+ processor (overclocked to XP 1800+)
Good Luck
Peace
