I seriously don’t get how a gay man can pal around with fundies as though they are not 100% opposed to his sexuality. It’s ridiculous. The man is a rich idiot (not uncommon).
Right wingers tend to think and act like rules and consequences don’t apply to them, which leads to behavior like that. Often leading to disaster when it turns out that consequences do apply to them.
Look at Ernst Röhm; a known homosexual who thought it was smart to be friends with Adolf Hitler of all people, and was killed in in the “Night of the Long Knives”.
^Yep, good example.
It’s a claim to hold to the orthodox doctrines of Christianity (Incarnation, Trinity, etc.) while not being a member of the Eastern Orthodox churches.
Some members of creedal Protestant churches call themselves “small-c catholic” Christians, in the sense of emphasizing the universality of faith, rather than alignment with the Roman Catholic Church.
Or, in the political sphere, consider the “small-l” libertarians, who try to push libertarian dogma while being registered as Republicans.
Except that while ‘small-l libertarians’ make sense insofar as there is no real inviolate doctrinal policy of Libertarianism, Eastern Orthodox Christianity, although comprised of individual autocephelously-governed churches definitely has some broadly shared exclusionary precepts (including a disfavored although not proscribed view of homosexuality and an endorsement of environmental protection over profit or national interests) which do not gel with Peter Thiel’s espoused principles, and the Roman Catholic Church definitely has a dogmatic view of its stated precepts which include fundamental theological and sectarian disagreements with the broad category of Protestantism even within ecumenical circles. This is just an example of the gyrational rationalism that people will engage in to align themselves with a movement or ideal that doesn’t actually correspond with reality. In Theil’s case, it is just an indication of what a delusional caitiff he is.
Stranger
Yes, Peter Thiel is a poser as a Christian, and posers want nothing more than to seem authentic. For that matter, he’s a poser as a “thinker” as well, and would find his lectures rather poorly attended if he didn’t have a few billion dollars of VC money burning a hole in his pocket.
IOW, a CINO.
Note to self: Do not read about the Nazi regime right before bed.
See also “small-c conservative” Jews.
From the Wikipedia article:
Although Hitler presented no evidence of a plot by Röhm to overthrow the regime, he nevertheless denounced the leadership of the SA. Arriving back at party headquarters in Munich, Hitler addressed the assembled crowd. Consumed with rage, Hitler denounced “the worst treachery in world history”.
Bolding mine. Sounds very familar.

I wasn’t sure whether this was the right place for this (there were a lot of Charlie Kirk threads). Mods, feel free to move.
It may be the most outrageous MAGA act I’ve seen (so far).
Tennessee man arrested, gets $2 million bond for posting Facebook meme
Larry Bushart, a 61-year-old former police officer, posted the offending meme last month. In response to a Facebook post about an upcoming vigil for Kirk, Bushart shared an image of President Donald Trump with the quote, “We have to get over it,” which Trump said in January 2024 after a shooting at Iowa’s Perry High School. Text added to the image said, “This seems relevant today.”
He was arrested and charged with a felony (threatening a school shooting!) and jailed for over a month, with bail set at $2,000,000.
On Dragnet, Joe Friday used to explain why they went after cop killers with such zeal. If someone is willing to kill an armed police officer, they sure wouldn’t hesitate to kill an unarmed civilian.
If the government is willing to do this to an ex-cop, what should the rest of us expect?
^Yep, outrageous.
Meanwhile, the whole Kirk thing has totally fizzled. Trump et al. have failed to turn the murder into grist for fascism, at least not much more than a nibble for a rat. Poor fools.
I don’t think most of the MAGAsphere genuinely cared about Kirk one way or the other. In fact, I think a lack of empathy is a core trait for MAGA even when it comes to their own. They like being outraged, but they’re not going to be outraged for someone else. They didn’t come to Trump’s aid when he was in court, they didn’t give a shit when someone took a shot at him, so they’re not really going to care about someone like Charlie Kirk.
Who is the “they” here?
^I think you are right and, what is more, these people don’t give a rat’s ass about “Christianity” either beyond being able to “other” those who don’t pretend to believe as they do, so idea of fighting (literally or figuratively) for Kirk’s “legacy” (which seems end with the radicalized Gen Z dickheads he’d already invited to the fascist fold) doesn’t seem to inspire them much.
MAGA as a whole. They had a bigger reaction to Dylan Mulvaney’s appearance on a Bud Light can than they did to Trump’s attempted assassination or him being put on trial.
Jesus is woke, so of course they can’t have that. Empathy is a sin after all.
According to some, the only breakup CK’s death is likely to cause is between JD Vance and his wife.
^That would already be a done deal if it weren’t for the Ambitious Mr. Vance’s concern about political fallout, but that might not be enough to stop the Mar-a-Lago lips from meeting the mustache (would not be surprised if it hasn’t happened already behind closed doors…).
True, but then, no one knows what goes on behind closed doors.
Only Mohair Sam.
