Ugh! I don’t hate just any 10 YO. I hate the actress Dakota Fanning who happens to be 10 YO. And if you are saying that a 10 YO actress is the same as any other 10 YO in the world then you are wrong. I *love * my 10 YO cousins.

I don’t hate the kid, but I have to say that she was probably the most annoying character in War of the Worlds, which is saying quite a lot.
She’s an odd one, in that she usually plays a fairly adult version of a child. It’s not mere precocity; she actually seems like an adult in a child’s body. In that (though certainly not in beauty) she reminds me of Elizabeth Taylor. Also, IMO she had more stage presence than Cruise in WotW, and whatever you think of him, he’s certainly got stage presence. I think she’ll be able to handle adult roles very well when the time comes.
Anyway, I hope so, because I really like her.
I think “hate” is strong. Some people don’t think she can act, feel she is overused, and don’t care to see her in movies. That doesn’t mean they “hate” her. Hate= hitting her with a sledgehammer in the face repeatedly. Nobody here feels that way towards her, I hope. And I agree that her looks will influence her later popularity. Sorry, bbut it’s true, sadly. If she’s not “conventionally” pretty, the best she can hope for is to be a character actress like Tilda Swinton or Joan Cusak. She is good from all reports, but still…

Well, I don’t think truly hating any celebrity is a healty thing, regardless of their age, unless, you know, they cut you off on the Hollywood Freeway or something. It’s the same (to me) as loving a celebrity. It’s an overly personal connection to someone you don’t actually know.
But then, yeah, most people who “hate” her just don’t like her body of work or what not, and saying they hate her is the easist way to express that.
She has 22 feature and 39 television credits to her name, according to IMDB. Considering her carreer started a mere 5 years ago, I think anyone would call that more than “a few movies.”
It’s like what I said earlier: She’s a child with an adult’s voice. I don’t just mean the way she sounds, either. It’s her word choice, demeanor, etc.
