Will Dakota Fanning have a movie career in ten years time?

Far beit from me to write off the career of an eleven year old girl, but do you really think that she’ll still be around in ten years? Joeseph Mazello and… his female counterpart in Jurrasic Park (adriana something?) didnt really set our screens ablaze lately, so dont say that working with Spielberg is the key to a long career. Kirsten Dunst made the leap, but the Kirsten Dunst didnt saturate movie release schedules after Interview with the Vampire… slow and steady wins the race. Has miss Fanning peaked too soon? Pretty much everyone I know seems to be fed up of her… I simply dont think she’ll make the switch from child actor to leading lady. And (believe me, I’ve tried, but this is as… diplomatic as I can put it) she doesnt look like she’s going to be… atractive in her twenties. You could always see that, say Lindsay Lohan or Jodie Foster were going to be stunners in later years…

I must be in the minority of people who aren’t impressed by her talents. I don’t see her in movies ten years from now.

Like Jodie Foster and Kirsten Dunst, and unlike the little twerps in Jurassic Park, Dakota Fanning is a very talented actor. She has a broad range and is usually note-perfect.

Apart from what shows up on screen, she is by all accounts already a consummate professional. She’s prepared when she shows up on set, gets down to it with no bullshit, and takes direction very well.

These are all qualities that are in demand no matter what your age. She’ll do fine.

I’ve seen about all of Dakota Fanning I ever want to see. I don’t know if she’ll make the transition. I hope not.

She’ll be as successful as Haley Joel Osment.

I’m looking forward to when they marry each other in 2021.

Oh, no, I hate that horrible little girl. I hope to never see her again.

I think she’s a good little actress. I also think she’s overexposed and that probably has more to do with why so many people are sick of her. In interviews I’ve seen she seems to be more of a professional than some of the adults she works with. Will she still have a career in 10 years? It’s possible, she might need to disappear for a while and come back later instead of sticking around for 10 years. If she plays her cards right she could be another Jodie Foster.
But for a less serious answer let me channel my masculine side.

Will she still have a movie career in 10 years?

That depends on the size of her rack.

I agree with everything Wile E wrote, including, sadly, the rack comment. She’s entering an awkward stage as we speak, and has a cuter younger sister nipping at her heels. But I do think she is genuinely talented, and very much like Jodie Foster (down to, it seems, the braininess), so she shouldn’t do too badly if she leaves the biz.

You forget the existence of plastic surgery which can be used if this is the case!

Thanks. I had meant to mention that she was entering the awkward less cute stage, so thanks for completing my thoughts, too.

If she is going to have any hope of a long-term career she needs to get out of the business for awhile now. Probably until after college. She’s going to be really weird looking as a teenager (sorry if that sounds mean but look at her) and it’s yet to be determined if she’ll be an attractive adult. She’s also, as others have said, very overexposed right now.

I’d also like to add that I think she is a slight bit of a novelty act. She’s a child who speaks like an adult. She does not have the wisdom, intelligence, or experience of an adult as many people seem to assume; she simply has the voice of one from what I can tell.

It never ceases to amaze me how mean and cruel adults can be to children.
Fanning’s an excellent actress with a level head on her shoulders, and since she’s already made more money than any of you haters will see in a lifetime, I love that she’s going to continue to have a very successful career and will be laughing all the way to the bank (and a possible Oscar statue sometime in the next 15-20 years) while bitter people snipe and sneer at her.

I should probably add that one of the reasons I like Dakota so much (besides her acting) is that she was smart enough to reisist Tom Cruise’s efforts to brainwash her into $cientology. I don’t have any behind-the-scenes cites, but general word is that she was polite to him and liked working with him, but wanted nothing to do with his stupid cult. Her parents probably had something to do with that, but still, she resisted being star struck enough to take what he said at face value. Smart girl.

(Cruise even failed at infecting Spielberg, and had 2 chances to do it. He’s probably very downstat and may be one of the reasons he went bonkers last year. He also failed to infect Nicole and Penelope. Baaad Tom, what would L. Ron say? Luckily he found a girl he can infect easily and mold to his desire. Poor Katie.)

I see something in Dakota that tells me she will have a great career in acting. I like the Jodie Foster analogy.

I can’t explain it more. Call it a psychic hunch, and I’ll be bumping this thread in about ten years.

First of all, I don’t see anyone else in this thread being as rude as you are. Secondly, I love how it’s impossible to have a legitimate discussion about a famous person without someone bring up how much money they make. As soon as you have no argument you curl up your toes, clench your fists, furrow your brow, and scream, “Yeah, but they’ve made more MONEY than you’ll ever make!!!” As if that makes them a better person or something.

Yes, because we’ve gone down there and kicked her and held her face down in the mud.

Honestly, how is talking about her in a thread being cruel to her? I like the child in the Sixth Sense. I like Harry Potter, although I suppose he’s not a thread anymore. I like the child in Charlie & the Chocolate Factory. I like some child actors. I don’t like Dakota Fanning one bit.

The last bit especially is ascribing motives to us that you have invented out of thin air. I am entitled to hate any actress/actor I like without being “bitter”.

Of course you are, but adults talking about Dakota the way some people have talked about her here is just a bit disturbing. She’s only been in a few movies, so I can’t really figure what’s to hate? Happily, it doesn’t matter what people think of her. She’ll keep on making movies and the people who don’t like her can just…wow, NOT SEE THEM! What a concept!

*Why * is it “disturbing”? Is my hate or lack thereof going to affect her in any way? How about your love, will that affect her in any way? And I don’t need to see her in a lot of movies to know I can’t stand her acting style.

I hate Leonardo DiCaprio, is that disturbing?
I just am very very picky on my child actors. And mostly I don’t like child actors in a movie unless the movie is a children’s movie!

War of the Worlds was not supposed to be a children’s movie, and there was no children in the book, yet the movie had two annoying kids in it, and Dakota was one of them.

Well, I can’t speak for everyone else but I can explain why I find her off-putting.

  1. Her precocity is unnatural and creepy. It’s not endearing, it’s not real and she always comes off more like an overcoached, over-mannered child actor rather than as a real kid.

  2. She’s ugly. (Yeah, I said it)

Hating a ten year old is probably not healthy.
