Just today I got an email telling me that it was the last day to apply for graduation. The problem is that I read the email for the first time 6 p.m., after the offices closed. My question is if I meet all requirements(which I will by the end of the semester), will I still receive the diploma and not be able to attend graduation, or will I not receive the diploma at all? Thanks. .

In my experience, there is almost always a special hidden extension period to cover screwup like your roommates and even myself as long as you act quickly and go to the right people. I have missed dozens of administrative deadlines in my life and have always been handled as an exception case after the fact.
Tell him to take care of quickly, be humble and act confused and ignorant about the original policy. That is the key.
Do NOT get pissy or whiney over ‘only having missed the deadline by one day’. You are in the wrong here. They can hang you out to dry if they want to. The way out of that is to go over their heads, which will probably work eventually, but it’s far easier to be humble and settle the issue at the lowest level possible.
Fill out the application and e-mail it or go over and see if you can drop it off sometime this weekend. Then on Monday go down to the office and follow up.
You can always ask. However, the due date for graduation applications was probably published in the academic calendar, so the e-mail was probably just a reminder.
