Yeah, unless you’re one of those people who follows Kate Goselin’s every movement, you’re not going to know she had a tummy tuck on TV. Lamest whoosh ever.
Actually, that’s the only thing I know about her. It was before all the Jon and Kate Plus 8 drama started and it made some mainstream (i.e. not celebrity gossip) news outlets. The doctor donated his services if I’m not mistaken.
I’m really getting tired of the West’s loose use of “in the world.” I can guarantee you that Ellen Degeneres has zero pull in Asia and Africa; there’s most of the people in the world right there.
Who the hell is Gail Kelly? Never heard of her. Or Indra Nooyi. Irene Rosenfeld? I thought she was sent to the electric chair in the 1950s for giving the secret of the atomic bomb to the Soviets.
It’s a Forbes list. The “power” they are concerned with is at least as much about money as people; the three women you name are executives of enormous multinational corporations.
“Gail Kelly (born Gail Currer on 25 April 1956 in Pretoria, South Africa) is an Australian and South African business person. In 2002 she became the first woman CEO of a major Australian bank or top 15 company and, as at 2005, was the highest paid woman at an Australian corporation. She took up the position of CEO at Westpac in 2008.” According to wikipedia.
“Indra Krishnamurthy Nooyi (born October 28, 1955) is an Indian American executive and is the Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PepsiCo Incorporated.[3] On August 14, 2006, Nooyi was named the successor to Steven Reinemund as chief executive officer of the company effective October 1, 2006.[4][5] On February 5, 2007, she was named Chairperson, effective May 2, 2007.” according to Wikipedia.
That was SO much work, I understand why you just ranted out a point without research.
Africa and Asia aren’t all 3rd world. American cinema and television is transmitted and followed all over the world. Being the most famous out lesbian, having the talk show that is replacing Oprah, being a international covergirl model, and being on American Idol means a handful of people in Japan, China, India, and Africa might know who she is. It’s about money and visibility more than anything.
Will Octomom be relevant one, two, three, four, Five years from now. More influential ten years down the road than Steffi? I’m not claiming Octomom is at the top now… In her Genre’ Katie G. holds the title. I think the Quiverfull God Lady is just crazy.
Just thought I’d pop in to mention something I heard at a party last night. I was talking to an Aussie who has traveled extensively throughout the world this year, and he mentioned “Bad Romance” is playing in every single place he’s been to. They’re playing it everywhere in Egypt. They’re playing it in Hungary. You name it, it’s playing there. There is no place on Earth you can go to get away from it. (MTV’s even playing it now as I type this.) He wasn’t complaining, just remarking, and I immediately thought of this thread. I think Lady Gaga will be around for some time to come.
