Will the Carolyn Gombell murder be what takes Trump down?

Note: there was no Carolyn Gombell murder because there was no Carolyn Gombell.

She is a Twitter creation formulated to protest Twitter’s refusal to remove the president’s baseless accusations against Joe Scarborough of murdering an aide in 2003.

It’s trending now, #justiceforcarolyn.

Mods: I nearly put this in Cafe Society, because I think it’s a masterstroke of creativity, but dunno whether hoaxes are an art form. Finally decided it was more politics than anything else. Move it wherever you decide it should go. MPSIMS?

INVESTIGATION NOW! It would be irresponsible not to speculate.

Perhaps this investigation will also get to the bottom of those rumors about what Glenn Beck did to that poor girl back in 1990.

ETA: I doubt this will result in anything at all other than some smug lefties spreading it around and some nasty righties claiming that it proves that all criticism of Trump is a lie. But we live in the Disinformation Age now, so what’s one more lie dropped into the cesspit?

True, it’s not taking the “high road” but following the prez on his merry dance to Hell. But for everyone on the left who’s been dying for Dems to “take the gloves off,” it’s an opportunity to see what’ll happen when they do.

Not that this God fellow is in any way representative of the party. He’s giving off more of an Abbie Hoffman vibe, or one of those political pranksters that Britain and Europe produce far beyond these shores.

It’s always fun to take a poke at President Pigfucker, but I don’t know if this is a good idea. Still, I’ve got this chair and plenty of popcorn…

How many threads have there been, so far, on what will “bring down” Trump?
It is interesting to consider, I guess, but given the number of times that reasonable people have shrugged off his mockery of the disabled, his personal attacks on people in the military or their families, his boasting of having molested women, etc. I really doubt that any event will sway his supporters.

I used that familiar turn of phrase in a jocular manner, since this particular event is as phony as a wooden nickel.

I agree. Inventing a fake story discredits all of the stories that are real.

This story is helping Trump not hurting him.

If only Abbie were still with us😞

Eh, the better version is Jack Dorsey (Twitter CEO) of murdering a drifter ten years ago. They should probably investigate that, too.

Yep, this was a mistake.

Nothing will happen. Not one thing, other than (as noted above) some of the Trumpists endlessly citing it as an example of liberal hypocrisy.

It’s stupid.

It’s hard to see this as anything but a joke, but I have to admit I was merrily adding details to the supposed death and the poor woman in question. It seemed like pure silliness and it’s already sunk below the waves of social media today.

You don’t fight lies with lies. You fight lies with truth, dull and unglamorous though it may be.

That worked good in 2016, didn’t it?

I agree, it was a fun little diversion for a day or so. But the liberals that are doing this have too much integrity to do it right, because that would involve dragging innocent people into it. You can’t really make it work with a fictional person. You need to find a bona fide tragedy and exploit it.

For example, a construction worker was killed during the building of Trump Soho in 2006 or thereabouts. You could start the story that he was running shady errands for Trump and had to be eliminated, or that he was creeping out Ivanka by trying to talk to her so Trump and Jared had him killed.

But this would cause actual pain to the family of this man. Similar to the pain beIng experienced by the family of Scarborough’s former intern, the pain suffered by the family of Seth Rich and the pain experienced by the families of anyone ever that died within 10 years of having contact with Bill or Hillary Clinton.

The right wing really has nothing in the way of empathy, morals or common human decency anymore, except for Romney -and they hate him for it.

Exactly. For Trump and his worshippers, cruelty is a feature, not a bug. Any parody that’s missing the key ingredient of cruelty will fall flat.

You’re laughing, meanwhile the Gombells have lost their precious daughter. :frowning:

He could be dead and cremated and I’d still worry about the ashes spontaneously reforming and coming back to steal another election. To his True Believers, there is absolutely nothing he could do to free them from his spell. The only truth he told in the whole campaign is that he could shoot somebody on Fifth Avenue and his supporters wouldn’t care.

Not so. Trump also indicated that he loved the uneducated.
