Will the members list be turned back on?

What seems to be the problem?

We do not wish for our users to be harassed by spammers or trolls, so the member list is not available to the general public.

It’s an inconvenience to our users, but we think the greater security risk is such that turning that function off is for the best.

Our apologies.

Too bad. There’s a lot of fun data in there.

You can get 1/8 of some parts of the current list here:

Some numbers would be fun to calculate:

You could plot the rise in site popularity from a plot of new-names/day.

You could make pie charts of how dominant the most vocal posters are.

Test Perato’s Law that 20% of the subjects produce 80% of the responses.

I’d wonder how many of the 8000 members never posted at all.

At the top of the list would be all the “space-name” clones.

I’m sure there’s a trend to longer names, with more parts.

You could even plot the “arc” of a person’s posting, where one is timid at first, then gets a rhythm, then gets obsessed, then has a relapse, then levels out.

If I knew how to make those charts I’d offer to do it (with the sensitive data stripped, email names and such). Unfortunately, I only read charts.
Everyone says I don’t know how to calculate an average right.

However, someone at the SDMB staff will probably be up to it at some point.
I look forward to the day.
