I apologize if the subject’s been discussed already, I am a new member. I noticed today that the post count is over 937,000 – and thus, by my calculations, the million post mark will be reached in two weeks, plus or minus four weeks. (OK, my empirical data resulted from tracking posts for 15 minutes. But I’m a CPA, so just trust me on this, it’s two weeks.)
So, what about it? Perhaps a “free pass” day whereby it’s forbidden to disagree with anything the winner posted?
And how about a prize for the doper that predicts the day and time of post #1,000,000?

I’ve been thinking about this myself, actually. I think the bigger deal will be the person who actually MAKES the millionth post.
Hopefully it’s a good post.
They get a thousand million Cecil Bucks! Save them up and get valuable prizes. Like a comb used by Cecil himself, or the jaquzzi where Cecil wrote the 3 words that end in -gry column, or if you get a billion zillion points, you recieve a pictures of Cecil himself!

Not much longer than you, actually - more on that in a second. I guess at least some of the mods might have Cecil’s ear, since they contribute to the column. Perhaps they’d tell him if they care, and if he cares, he’d pat us all on the back and compliment our minion-y-ness.
I registered in April 2002, and posted about two dozen times before getting busy doing other stuff. I came back here less than two months ago. That’s why my posting average is just under 4. If you discount the year off, you’ll find that since April 19 (I think that’s the date), I’ve been posting at a rate I think even the people with quadruple digits would find alarming.

How exactly would you figure out which post is the millionth? It isn’t like this is a low-traffic board, y’know?
Well, you might be able to figure it out. If you refresh and post enough, you could at least get a close approximation - and I’m willing to bet the mods and the people with access to the software could figure it out easily. Might be harder for us, yeah…
You’d have to find it from this screen. Somebody will see 1,000,000 posts in MPSIMS and the “last post” will link to the post in question.
However it may go quickly enough that no one will see it exactly. Especially if people try and take it for their own. We might see dozens hopping on the bandwagon and posting at the same moment. That might make it almost impossible to tell.
