Will the pain from this pulled muscle ever go away?

OUCH OUCH OUCH!

I pulled a muscle in my back on Sunday morning. It still hurts like hell.

No bruising, no swelling. Dr. said to take anti inflammatories, try to rest it, and apply heat.

Not asking for medical advice.

How long are these things supposed to hurt for? I’m sick of looking like an old man when I try to get dressed!

It should start to get slightly better each day…but it could take a few weeks before you feel 100% .

Could be a week, could be months. Depends. Where in your back, when does it hurt, how did you pull it, how old are you, what do you for for exercise, what kind of shape are you in? All of these variables affect the degree to which you might be injured and how well your body can recover.

I pulled my lower back muscles (lumbar area) slipping on ice in January and it was very painful for several days and some pain persisted for weeks. I do weight training regularly including lower back exercises and it took months before I was back to my full back routine again. I am 51.

I pulled a muscle in my glutes playing football (soccer for the rest of you). I lifted my foot up to a waist high ball that had been hammered by another player - the ball was going so fast (and my leg was so extended) my leg was swung out by the ball.

That sucker took months to heal. Sitting at work could be agony, driving was a problem after a couple of hours (I had a 3.5 hour drive twice a week to and from work) and running/skiing/gym work was painful, too.

So a few days since Sunday is early days - give it a bit of time. Get some Arnica based anti-inflammatory cream. I like a product sold as Natures Kiss (in the UK) or Anti-Flamme (in NZ). Really good stuff for pulled muscles.

Si

Hurts in the lower left portion of my back. Bending over to tie my shoe or put pants on hurts like hell.

39, I do an hour of cardio 6 times a week. I just added more weight training as well. That may have been what pushed me over the edge. In decent shape.

I’m going to ditch the weight training for a while. Just like to get back to be able to do some cardio.
