Will the Trickle Become a Torrent? (Trump)

A few choice words from a RedState denizen on their thread on the subject:

Trump has basically been reduced to appealing for divine intervention. If he can’t find an upswell of support there, he has no other choice but to start pulling votes out of his ass. And with this new open letter signed onto by 70 former congressman and operatives coming out, it’s looking more and more like a sinking ship with each passing day. Politico has reported the Trump campaign and the RNC are going to have a “come to Jesus” meeting tomorrow in Orlando but Trump himself has no plans to attend…he’s sending a lackey while he goes on his merry way. Also, they reported a quote from an interview he gave on Fox News tonight:

Clearly, he believes he’ll be perfectly fine on his own without the party. Methinks he’s delusional about how politics tends to work.

Yeah, none of that other stuff seemed to matter to anyone that wasn’t already against him. Trump could have had an abortion on TV and it wouldn’t have made much of a difference but our society worships warriors.

Trump may not have had an abortion on TV, but I’m guessing he’s paid for a few.

Or more likely, going on past performance, stiffed the providers.

I’m afraid that RedStater is in denial if he thinks the Trump nomination can be put down to “a bunch of ‘angry’ white trash bigots”.

Trump likes to say that he “grew the party” by bringing in new voters to support the Republicans, but RedState and others have concluded that Trump didn’t bring anyone new to the primary votes; he brought in Republican supporters who normally vote in the general election, but often skip the primaries:

RedState: Confirmed: Bad News For Trump Supporters: He’s Not Bringing In New Voters

Yahoo: New data backs argument that Trump has not expanded the GOP

In other words, those millions of Trump voters in the primaries are the Republican party. They can’t be brushed away as an aberration, as that poster was trying to do.

Republican leadership have been denouncing The Donald all along … Republicans nominated him anyway … will the Democrat leadership make the same mistake?

There’s genuine dissatisfaction with how things are going in Washington D.C. … or should I say how things are not going.

We’ll find out come this December when the Electoral College chooses our next President.

Hillary Clinton. It’s okay. You can say it. The next President will be Hillary Clinton.

You think it will be a mistake for the Democrats to denounce Trump? You do understand they are on different sides. It would be rather remarkable if the Dems didn’t denounce him. The way a bunch of Republicans saying Hillary is a better choice is causing a bit of a stir.

George W. Bush’s Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez endorses Hillary, says she’ll “make a darn good president.”

This one is small potatoes, but David Hadley, the Republican California Assemblyman for my deep purple district, just sent out a mailer. It mostly touts his bipartisanship (the mailer was addressed to me - I’m registered Non-Partisan/No Party Prefence/Decline to State - the name keeps changing), but in the lower right corner, there is a picture of Trump with a red X through it.

The money quote: “WARNING. Do not be fooled by [the Democratic opponent’s] vicious smears. David Hadley is NOT voting for Donald Trump for President.”

An incumbent Republican is calling the suggestion that he’s voting for party mate Trump a “vicious smear”.

I think it’s only a matter of time until it becomes a torrent. My theory is that some Republicans, probably not a majority but enough to make Trump’s loss a landslide, are only supporting Trump right now in the misguided hope that things will turn around for him. If we get to October and the polls look the same, I think those folks will realize it’s too late for Trump and begin to abandon ship in large numbers.

I agree. I think some sane Republicans who supported Trump early on are looking to justify abandoning ship. They held out hope that he would become presidential, but obviously that’s not happening. Now, with so many GOP against Trump, it seems to me hard to justify supporting him all the way to November unless you are an anti-intellectual bigot. Party loyalty should only go so far.

Polls may have something to do with it, but IMO Trump will just keep going farther off the rails, saying more crazy shit that HAS to be denounced to avoid their own political death, and eventually his outrageousness will push them over a tipping point. They will start withdrawing their endorsement if they’ve given it, or just plain denouncing his candidacy if they haven’t.

Funny. Check out the website where he refuses to denounce Trump: http://hadleytrump.com/

I’m guessing that Hadley does not want to comment on Trump on camera. You might want to keep that flyer. Anyway, here is Hadley’s op-ed piece where he says he won’t be voting for Donald Trump or Clinton: Why Clinton and Trump won’t get a South Bay legislator’s vote: David Hadley – Daily Breeze
