One person I know is convinced that the evangelicals are “behind the assassination attempt.” They’re not idiots. He’s their “golden goose” as far as what they want.

If the GOP could actually pass an abortion ban in the US Congress, Trump would sign it even if he currently says he won’t. Evangelicals know this.
Further, if he gets to nominate a few more justices a SCOTUS opinion that finds some level of fetal rights is certainly not outside the realm of possibility. Certainly the current court wouldn’t overturn a federal ban.
