Will You Be Doing Black Friday Shopping?

A couple of years ago, I went to Best Buy on the Saturday after Black Friday and picked up some Blu-ray titles at a good price. My problem is that it’s a lot easier to find stuff I want than stuff I should be getting for my family.

I would rather pay twice as much than shop on the Friday after Thanksgiving. And, I’m not getting up early for any reason. But, I’m really thinking of shelving xmas this year. Kids are old enough to understand I’m just not in the mood anymore to buy them crap.

No.

Never have, don’t see a reason to change that.

I doubt it. I only did once, and that was because there was something only being sold that day that I wanted.

No, never, not on a bet.

And I think that they should make Black Friday sales illegal. Regular open/close hours, no sale prices. Give the poor employees a break.

I do all my shopping for Christmas and birthdays throughout the year as I find stuff that I think our present recipients would like. I also make a bunch of cards and presents instead of buying them, and a few people prefer gift cards and they are really easy to shop for

If you spread your present buying through the year, it is also less of a burden on your finances. The idea of going into debt for a few presents is absurd.

No. Or rather, hell no.

Nope, I’m going to be traveling. I’d rather spend 12 hours in a car than go shopping on Black Friday again.

If I do go I try to go late in the morning, like 10am or later. By that time the big groups have already left and you can walk in and out in a lot of stores with essentially no crowds and no lines. You can’t get the doorbuster sales (you usually can’t even get those if you get in at 5am) but you can still get a lot of decent sales on smaller stuff doing that.

Avoid best buy any time of day on black friday though.

God no, the Black Friday tradition epitomizes what’s the f*ck wrong with our country. People are sheep being goaded into this frenzy. BTW, I’m a moderate/liberal.

I do my Black Friday shopping online. My bonus comes around the same time.

Absolutely not. The day after thanksgiving is a day to spend with my family and as much as possible, I want everyone, even the unfortunate souls working at Kohls, to be able to spend it with theirs.

If there are compelling sales on stuff we can use, yes. We generally find something worthwhile every year. We don’t wait on line at 3 AM, but we’ll go at a reasonable hour and brave the crowds to get what we can get.

God no, it wouldn’t even occur to me.

I’ve never done it before (except online), and see no reason to start now. Especially because Hanukah starts the night before Thanksgiving this year (and that’s usually the bulk of my gift-giving anyway).

Good Lord no! Went once with my former sister-in-law, and vowed never again. What a nightmare!

(Although I did break my vow once. The kids were small, and I was divorced and broke. My best friend and I drove to the nearest town at four a.m., waited outside Walmart for an hour until the doors opened, and grabbed the items we needed. My receipt was time stamped at 5:03:31 am, and I paid about $45 bucks for enough toys to make the kids happy, including a bike for the 7-year-old.)

Now I do almost all of my shopping online, and I’ll probably finish my shopping between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Oh, yay! I hadn’t heard yet - congrats!

I avoid Black Friday shopping if I can help it, except for online stuff. And even then, there’s rarely much there to interest me. I don’t really need any electronics, and that’s usually the big-discount stuff.

For the last six year, my Black Friday tradition is to go into the office and do all of my budgeting, fee updates, client evaluations, etc for the next year. That day has the advantages that no clients will ever try to call me or drop in, and it’s at the perfect time to generate letters that need to be sent by 12/1.

I don’t want to be anywhere near a store on that day - heck, we don’t even want to be on the road, so we order lunch to be delivered.

No. I see to reason to fight the crowds.

I’m so pleased with what hasn’t appeared in this thread.

Details when appropriate.
