Wimbledon 2010

Mahut seems to keep on going 0-15 up on Isner’s service games but then can’t build on it.

And so it went…day after day…night after night…the two men playing on and on…without food or sleep. Interest was high, but after a few weeks it waned until at the end no one was around to watch, except the exhausted and famished players and officials, when Isner lunged at a ball and hit a passing shot for the match winner…only to perish on the spot, a victor in the match, but ultimately losing to Death himself.

44-44. Insane.

It’s like a Bulwer-Lytton entry, only it’s real.

Someone bring them a fresh shirt each - they’re soaked to the skin with sweat! I guess they’ve used their spare ones…

Yeech, ESPNU now has the coverage. And on my system, ESPNU is not HD. Isner has now won more games in the 5th set as there was total in the first 4 sets. Mahut will probably do the same.

Are they stuck in some sort of time-loop?

They have had time to wash and dry the discarded shirts.

not on ESPN2 anymore eheu I am mad as hell and I’m not gonna take it anymore. How can they switch away from a historic game to an unimportant game. How am I to complain to ESPN

Incidentally, the fifth set at 5 hr 33 minutes is now longer than any post-tiebreaker match played on anything but clay. (There was a 6 hr 33 min match at the French in 2004; just have to keep this one up for one hour longer!)

They have had time to go out and harvest the cotton, spin it into cloth and manufacture new shirts.

Federer finally closed out Bozoljac, 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (5). Federer was 3/13 on break points. Otherwise, from the numbers at least, it doesn’t look like he did anything wrong. His serve percentage was good, and he hit 69 winners against 13 errors. Up next he’s probably going to get Arnaud Clement, who I think is the oldest player in the draw at 32.

It’s now 48-47 Isner. The match is almost 8 and a half hours old. Since they played for almost three hours yesterday, it’s unlikely they will set the record for longest part of a match ever played in a single day. But you can imagine it happening at this point. This has been posted around here before, but here’s an article about the longest single-day match ever. It lasted 6:31, and believe it or not it was a straight sets victory that included a (fairly short!) tiebreak. The score was a measly 6-4, 7-6. That’s right- it was a women’s match. That one included a single point that lasted 29 minutes. So it was really the polar opposite of this match. Isner and Mahut need to go another hour to beat that one. Each game has taken about 3:36, so that would be approximately 16 more games. If they get to 55-55, they may do it.

By the way, the old record-holders for longer men’s match ever - in another match split up over two days because of darkness - are Fabrice Santoro and … Arnaud Clement. See above.

Extra punchline: Thiemo De Bakker is supposed to play doubles today. I think he’ll withdraw.

It’s 30-all on Mahut’s serve… another chance for Isner may be forthcoming…

Looks like the on-court scoreboard has frozen at 47-47, 0-0.

92 aces for Isner too.

They shoot horses don’t they?

It isn’t legal, but if you use from sport dot com, you can stream it there. My cable company is not part of espn3 for some weird reason, so it’s my only option.

Again, it’s not legal according to my knowledge.

If mods want to delete this post, please feel free to do so. I’m just trying to help us out, since we were all legally watching in the first place.

Wow, the scoreboard just quit. It stopped at 47-47 and it’s 48-48.

The umpire and the judges are trying to figure out what to do about the scoreboard.

I’m waiting for them to bring out flip cards and flipping the score over manually.

Impressive bladder control by the umpire.

Approaching 9 hours in length.
