Will Windows 2000 be a client for Win 98 internet sharing?
I’m running Win 2000 and Win 98 and tried to use ICS. No go. I dunno about WinMe though, that might work since its the home user version.
I know that Windows ME will. I have heard that 2000 will but its a drawn out process. a 98 machine can see the hardware on a 2000 machine, but not the files.
Any OS can be a client for Win 98 connection sharing, even Unix and Mac. You might have to put in the TCP/IP settings manually though.
Use these settings on the client computers.
Static IP address: 192.168.0.2 (for more than one client computer use 192.168.0.3 and so on)
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.0.1
DNS Configuration

host: name of win98 computer
DNS Search order: 192.168.0.1
