Thought I would post this here and see what the dope comes up with.
Basically I want to connect my xbox to the computer running win7, I need this so that I can FTP stuff over to the xbox.
The way I can make it work is to have the ethernet cable from the xbox, plugged into the port on my netbook, then bridge the two connections and voila it works. Windows seven on the other hand , recognizes the connection but I can’t at this time bridge the connection to use the wireless network.
On the XP netbook, I have a direct connection between the xbox and the netbook, but with the windows 7 laptop, I have to use an ethernet adapter that plugs in the ethernet cable at one end, and the other end uses a usb connection to actually plug into the laptop, if this is important. Its one of those nexxtech thingies.
Looking for ideas on how to make this work.
Bonus, if someone can post a decent win7 forum addy
To clarify, the Windows 7 computer does not have an existing Ethernet port, so you are using a USB to Ethernet adapter?
Do the link lights light up on the USB to Ethernet adapter and Xbox?
It sounds like you may using a normal straight through Ethernet cable and the netbook has an auto-crossover (auto-MDIX sensing) port. If the link lights do not come on when using the Windows 7 machine, you need to get a crossover cable or an Ethernet adapter with auto-crossover. If the link comes up and Windows 7 indicates the port status as Connected, what do you mean by it “can’t bridge”? Do you get error messages, or does it just not seem to work?
Additionally, bridging is not necessary to create a private network between the Xbox and the computer. You can just assign IP addresses statically and the two will be able to communicate.
It has an existing ethernet port that the cable is now residing, the usb adapter has been removed.
The little led lights on the adapter did come on and were blinking occasionally
How would I go about finding if the win7box has that auto MDIX sensing port. One error I get while trying to click on the ics sharing in the sharing tab, is that it says error null. nothing more. On the network bridge error message, it says it must have two lan or high speed connections that are not being used by ics.
As far as I know , the lan port and the wlan should satisfy that requirement.
