Windows 10 instal Problem...

My Son turned off the computer, because he didn’t want to wait for the updates.
So, using the onboard repair windows function, we wound up with a Log in background, and no login function.

Decided to just do a clean instal, which this pc has had before, but now it starts the installation, the screen goes blank, and nothing for 2 hours now.

No cursor, no circle of dots chasing its tail. If I unplug the monitor it says no signal, plug it back in and it reconnects.

Tried the usb stick first, now using dvd burned from Microsoft. both had the same issue.
Waking the mouse/keyboard doesn’t do anything. Any ideas or help is appreciated.

Bad mistake. There are - well, in your case were - recovery options available.

Try plugging the monitor into other ports on the GPU. Try selecting the input port on the monitor. Try plugging the monitor into the motherboard, not the GPU.

What are the exact specs of the PC and monitor?

If you’re going for a clean install anyhow, I recommend either formatting the drive or deleting the partition. That way, the next attempt is guaranteed to be a clean install.

Already swapped video cable from the gpu to the original motherboard. Nothing happened. The PC is a Gateway, model number not available atm. The television is an insignia. I am currently using the vga plug in. I have shut down the win 10 and am trying the win 7 disk right now. If that works I might be able to upgrade, or not. At least I will know if its something wonky whith the pc or not.

The Win 10 usb I made worked wonderfully for my PC, but the Gateway just went blank instead of installing. Gave up after 1 hour, restarted the installation using a DVD iso. Gave up after 2 hours.

Windows 7 is installing right now, screen is up and I can tell it is still kicking.

The pc came with 7 originally, updated to 10 under the free upgrade, Put a fresh install in, with no problems a few months later. Did every thing the same, except using usb flash drive to install, which worked fine on the Asus. Which originally came with 8.1.

Deleted and formated, 10 doesn’t like to install unless you erase everything it seems.

Windows 7 installed without a problem.

Did a clean install of Windows 10, this time it took. Evidently pluging in the ethernet cable is a problem, so I just unplugge everything but the keyboard and mouse.

Thanks for your time all!
