Windows 10 - pinning program to Task Bar

I’ve just got a new computer with Windows 10.

I like playing older games like Civilisation 4 and Colonisation.

I put the discs into the drive and load + run the programs successfully.
However when I try to pin the programs to the Task Bar, they don’t show in the Start Menu.

Please can anyone help!

Task bar and start menu are separate things. You can pin programs to the start menu. You can pin programs to the task bar. You can do both. Or neither.

Taskbar and Start Menu are not the same thing in Windows 10.

Right click on the open program in the taskbar and select “Pin to Start.” If that’s not an option:

The “All Programs” listing on the far left of the Start Menu is just shortcuts. They can be altered, added, or deleted in the File Explorer at: %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs. Add the shortcuts for your games, then go back to the start menu, right click on the shortcut from the “All Programs” list, then right click->Pin to Start.

Left click on the start menu, or just press the Windows key. Type as much of “Civilisation 4” as it takes for it to appear in the search results. Right click on the result, and you have options of where to pin it.

Task bar and the start menu are not the same thing in Windows 7, either.

Thanks for all the replies.

Sorry if I didn’t make myself clear - after loading the programs from the disc, they didn’t appear in the Start Menu so I couldn’t Pin them to the Task Bar.
I’ve now found the programs in the C: drive and used Pin from there (Hopefully that makes sense.)

In that case, did you try Baron Greenback’s advice and they still didn’t show up.

Whether something goes to the Start Menu or not completely depends on whether the program decides to do so during install. Many also allow you to do so as an optional check box (either opt-in or opt-out).

The method you ended up doing works fine.
