Windows Media Player 10 Synch Problem

I have two portable devices that i’m trying to synch with. Both support wma and mp3. One is a crappy cheapy thing but has served me well and i didn’t have this problem with my old laptop running WMP10 so it’s not the device thats the problem. The other device is a windows smartphone v5, which umm, you’d kinda assume to be compatible.

Anyway, problem 1, whenever i try to synch files using WMP it picks and chooses which files it synchs. A whole bunch of stuff just ends up under a tab which says “Windows Media Player cannot synchronise the file. The player might not support the file type.” Which of course is rubbish as WMP on desktop plays it fine and both portable devices play them fine if i use explorer to manually copy them over one by one.

So, do the files that don’t get copied have anything in common? As far as i can see they are all mp3, don’t seem to have a problem with any wma files. But it’s not all mp3 files, some copy over fine.

Now, problem 2, how the hell do you actually synch the playlist itself? My last pocket pc i had this problem, select a playlist to synch and the music on the playlist gets synched but not the actual playlist, so unless you wanna pick each track individually you are screwed. The mobile devices don’t even seem to have the ability to make up playlists on the device so you can’t even duplicate it. I seem to recall i got round this before by copying manually to the playlists folder on the device but even this seemed to be very hit n’ miss, sometimes it worked, other times it didn’t. Surely this must be supported properly?

Please help, the length of walk my dog gets is directly related to the quality of the music on my portable and he’s really pissed off with microsoft just now!

Anybody???

Just tried to synch some of the problem tracks from the original album and they worked fine that way, so it seems the problem only comes up when you use playlists to populate the synch list. Which of course is what i want to do.
