I have asked this twice before and not got a ‘solution’ so I will ask one last time (in colour this time)-
Why does Windows Media Player skip every other mp3 track? and how do I stop it?
Things to know before replying:
I know all the files exist and are in the right place.
Media Player is not set on ‘shuffle’
The skipping is consistent, not random. It plays odd tracks or even tracks (depending on where it starts. If it starts at track 1 it will play 1,2,5,7,9 etc. If it starts at 2 it will play 2,4,6,8,10 etc…)
I cannot find an option in any of the menus that could be making it do this.
Now, if there is no answer to this, I have another question (please don’t ignore the first question. I’d prefer an answer to the first than the second) …
What is the best [preferably free] downloadable, multiple mp3 playing program? And where is it (provide a link please)
Nobody cares, we get the idea. File for future reference–the multiple colors don’t help get an answer faster, 'kay?
What version of Windows are you using?
From Microsoft’s “Troubleshooting Media Player” page. Your problem isn’t on their official list, so what they suggest next is making sure that you have the latest version of Media Player, which depends on which version of Windows you have.
It’s not that we’re ignoring you, okay? It’s that either:
The person who knows the answer to your question hasn’t seen your thread.
You’ve got a new problem there and nobody knows what to do about it.
I can honestly say I have never, ever, heard of this happening. If its not on shuffle it should not happen. Anyway, get rid of windows media player and switch to Winamp, its much better:
What version of Windows Media Player are you using? I’m using Windows Media Player ver.9. Maybe an update might just fix your problem. It’s still in beta though, so use it only if you’re comfortable with beta releases. It’s been stable so far on my WinME.
It wasn’t that I thought people were ignoring me. It was that the other threads digressed too much so I asked the question again with more specific criteria to avoid digression
And I know that people who have the answer might not have been on at those times, so I hoped to catch them by asking again.
I didn’t mean to piss anyone off, but you didn’t have to reply or even answer if you had seen this in GQ before, therefore there was no call for a bad attitude (from some of you)
I will get winamp or something.
And I won’t bother you lot again with a Question in ‘General Quiestions’
Uninstall windows media player then re install it. Also, was there a cause and effect? Like you put on some software and it started to happen. OR did you upgrade to XP and it started to happen?
Lobsang: There was no intention on the part of either Duck Duck or me to ridicule you or make you feel bad or anything of the sort. Infact, DDG made a sincere effort to answer your question. As for me, I appreciated the fact that you used colour and all and that you offered absolute specifics about your problem. The latter was the reason I decided to post this time around, but just to let you know that I didn’t have an answer. By all means continue to post in GQ, and we’ll try and answer your questions as best as possible. It’s just that no one could figure out what the problem could be in this instance.
Can I just say that I love the colours? Really unusual and nice.
I found Music Match Jukebox the best mp3 player for PC, it is so fully featured, being able to rip as well is great.
For Mac I like Mint Audio best - http://www.unsanity.com - it’s lovely and slick the way it reduces to a tiny little control strip. Only $10 to register (though it works without registration - but you have to start it up again every hour or it stops, and some features are disabled). I registered mine.
Whew. ANYBODY who thinks that was a “flame” needs to grow wayyyy thicker skin. Read the post again, please, this time without so much defensive paranoia. Note the presence of friendly smilies ----> ""
And as Xash kindly pointed out, if I was gonna flame you, I wouldn’t have bothered to Google your problem, find the Windows Media Player Help page, read it, discover that it didn’t include YOUR problem, and then post the results.
Lobsang, we have had numerous discussions on the use (or misuse) of color since the new “color-friendly” version of VBulletin was implemented, and it is no secret that many people find it irritating to see entire posts in multiple colors. It’s hard to read, and a distraction to the matter at hand. I was merely pointing that out to you in case you had missed the discussion.
Some people whose questions do not get answered do get all pissy and paranoid, thinking we’re deliberately ignoring them. Glad to see that evidently you’re not one of them, after all.
xash, you know me, I would want to know what computer it is, what operating system, how much memory, what music they are trying to play & what version of media player… Sometimes I get chewed out for asking for more info.
I don’t see the point of using media player anyway, when there are a lot of other players, some free, I bet, from download.com
Playlist Shuffle Repeats and Skips Tracks After an .asx File Is Played
SYMPTOMS
When you use the shuffle feature for a playlist in Windows Media Player 7 that contains both .asx and .mp3 files, tracks are played randomly or shuffled until an .asx file is played. After an .asx file is played, other .mp3 files may be repeated or skipped before the entire playlist has been played."
Myself, I didn’t see your post as a flame but rather as unnecessarily and pointlessly rude. There are a lot of folks on these boards who seem to think that throwing up a bunch of chicken-shit smilies can undo the entire tone of a post. They are wrong.
Hey, lobsang. Why don’t you just copy all the music files in a folder, paste them into a temporary folder, tack a “[2]” to the end of each name, then paste 'em back in to the original? You would get:
Song A
Song A [2]
Song B
Song B [2]
…
Then, if you ever fix the problem, you can grab all the cloned tunes by searching for *[2], and delete 'em.
Remember, Microsoft is all about solutions, 'cause they can’t or won’t fix a lot of the problems.
