I’ve done many searches, and installed several things, but I’m not having much success finding reading software for my Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphone (HTC Tilt 2).
MobiPocket seems fine for MOBI books, but I also want to read EPUB. The closest to success I’ve found is Freda, but for some reason, the screen comes out blank. I’ve changed the settings many times, but the text seems to always be missing, or the same color as the background (or maybe the background is being put in front of it).
I’d love it if Adobe would write an app, but they don’t seem interested in doing so.
My recollection when I installed Freda on my old iPAQ (Windows Mobile 2003) is that you also had to install a Windows Mobile version of Microsoft’s .NET (.NET Compact Framework).
I also tried ZuluReader, but I liked Freda better.
Alternatively, you can install Calibre (also free) on a desktop machine and convert EPUB files to MOBI format. (Only works if no DRM is involved.)
I have installed the latest version of .NET Compact Framework, but Freda still doesn’t work right. I have also installed ZuluReader, but can’t get it to open anything other than the book it came with.
It would help if there was documentation, but I guess that’s asking too much from freeware.
Well, you got me then. It worked for me, but that was a different platform (PDA) with an older version of the OS.
Have you tried the developer’s website - http://www.turnipsoft.co.uk/freda/? There is online documentation and it looks like you can email him for support.
(I do note that the current version isn’t for Windows Mobile 6.x. Is there a chance you’re using the wrong version?)
