Windows XP: Enabling Ports 24000-24100 for Scrabulous

I use a wireless connection. Scrabulous says that because of this, I cannot play until I enable ports 24000-24100. Does anyone know (surely someone knows!) how to do this? I’m using Firefox, if it matters.

ok - the problem is that there are several places that you may need to fiddle with to get this to work.

First, determine the IP address of your PC and of your internet gateway. On your PC use start menu|run, type cmd and press <enter>. In the command prompt, type ipconfig /all. In the list of results will be your IP address and your Gateway address.

So your gateway will be a cable modem or ADSL router (it may be your wireless access point as well). You should be able to access the management functions of this by using Firefox and typing in the gateway address into the address bar. If this does not work, you need to read the manual for your gateway device to find out how to do this - I cannot tell you because I don’t know what the device is. Once in the management page, there will be an option for Port Forwarding - add the Scrabulous ports to this with a destination address of your PCs IP address.

You may also need to open the Control Panel - Firewall applet on your PC and add the Scrabulous ports there as well.

These changes should work, but if you use DHCP to get your IP address, it may fail at some future point in time if your IP address changes (this only happens if the the PC is off for a long time and the address expires and is allocated to something else).

Good luck

Si

Thanks, I’ll try that when I get home to my laptop.
