Wine for me! Who wants a dram?

Because my friends have gone back to college, I have no real-life people to have a glass of wine with.

Who wants a glass of Yellow Tail Merlot?

(Please drink responsibly people, we don’t want to get shut down!)

Merlot? Merlot?!

I’m not drinking merlot!
…Meh… who am I kidding? Splash me a glass. Cheers!
What’r we drinkin’ too?

I don’t know what we’re drinking to, but I’m drinking, too! (I’ll be blue-collar tonight, though: Ice-brewed lager, thanks, since I’m watching Shelter from the Storm/A Concert for the Gulf Coast. So far, I’ve cried through about 75% of the songs, and “cryin’ in my beer” seems more apropos than “cryin’ in my merlot/shiraz/riesling.”)

I’ve never tried Yellow Tail - may I have a glass? I have some cheese (Brie, and some aged Cheddar) and crackers…

[Pours three generous glasses]

Welcome to the party! Let’s have a ball.

SCL, Yellow Tail is Aussie wine (which, as others here can tell you, I’m rather fond of). It’s quite good and this bottle seems to be finishing better than the last that I bought. Very good stuff and pretty inexpensive.

I’ve been meaning to purchase a bottle of Jacob’s Creek lately. I tried some at dinner with Lady Mung when we visited her relatives in Ohio. Very, very nice.

Cheers, beers!

(speaking of which, Infinity, what’s your brand?)

See if you can get Tyrrell’s Long Flat Red over there. From memory, it’s a shiraz-cabernet, and it goes down a treat. Very, very reliable. If you like Jacob’s Creek, you’ll like this one, and at only about A$10 a bottle here, it’s as good as some wines three times the price. Look for the yellow label.

Ooh, I love Aussie Merlots. When I drink wine, that is. Mind if I hoist an Irish Whiskey in your general direction?

I’m a bit iffy about Merlots. It’s alright added to another base - a Cab-Shiraz-Merlot is okay.

I think Australian wine is at its best in the form of a big, robust, South Australian kick-in-the-goolies red, and that’s gotta be a Shiraz.

I like Cabernet-Merlot okay, but I’d rather have the merlot. I generally find myself in the mood for merlot, but the J-Creek I bragged on was a shiraz. Absolutely loved it.
Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll look for that yellow label the next time I’m down at the friendly neighborhood spirits store.

I’ll toast you one too, Jules! Cheers!

Sounds good, but tonight is girls’ night. I have to go hang out in my not-so-favorite bar and drink girly drinks (Merlot is too manly). But I’ll raise a glass to you later!

Fair enough. But everyone else needs to have sip in honor of Campion. Cheers!

Cheers!

Ummmmmm…this is good. I’ll have to get some.

I guess, since I’m fairly anonymous here, I can admit my pedestrian tastes: I like Natural Ice, by Anheuser Busch. (Disclaimer: I have utterly pedestrian tastes. Actual mileage may vary. Professional driver on closed track. Please drink responsibly. The most common side effect of this medication is random singing in public and a shockingly bad headache in the morning. Ask your doctor whether ethanol + hops + barley is right for you.)

Natural Ice: Less cost, MORE ALCOHOL! (5.9% by volume! W00H00!)

Nothin’ wrong with it.

I have a question…should we make this a Weekly Party Thread? For those of us who, like me, have not much better to do on these lovely weekends but banter over a few drinks with our friends on the Dope? I say YES, a Weekly Doper Party Thread is most certainly called for.

Maybe that’s just me. Maybe I’m just jolly like that.

Carry on.

Tonight I’ll be drinking a bottle of blueberry wine, courtesy of the Tomasello Winery. If you’ve only ever had grape wine, you owe it to yourself to try this or something like it.

Sounds good. But we’ll need a name for our group. Also, I wonder if we should rotate hosts and wine selections. The host will choose a wine, let everyone know in advance and everyone picks it up on their own. We can keep the selection price down to under $10 for those on a budget. We’ll meet here on a designated evening and have a party.

Thoughts?

The bus wife enjoys Yellow Tail, and she cutely misponounces Merlot with a hard “T”.

Alas, she now naps while I watch Clint and down one of several Bass Ales tonight. But a weekly party suite me dandily. Count me in.

I’ll bring popcorn.

Yes, thoughts:

  1. Don’t type in the dark by the light of the TV or you’ll type suite where you meant suits.

OK, thought. Singular.

You can get it here, and it is nice. Cheaper here, too (?) IIRC.

Like him or hate him, Greg Norman makes some really nice wines.

For no reason, I’ll toast you with a small glass of Zubrowka I have here.
