Winter Blues Postcard Exchange

I’m on it!

So that’s two of us!

I’m going to be factual here.

I sent cards to a particular poster. I was supposed to get cards from them. They say they sent them but it’s been almost three weeks, a lot later than they should have been sent anyway.

Noel Prosequi, why haven’t you responded? There was your one reply, on 3/7/17, and nothing since.

I know I’m not the only one. Your only post in this thread was to sign up.

Many thanks for managing this round, Algher. But for simplicity’s sake and so that everyone is on the same page, so to speak, I personally prefer to both send to and receive from the same people. Just my two cents’ worth.

Hi Baker,

I did sign up, but I also had a work bind at the time that I did not think was as temperamental as it was. It also turns out that old-school postcards are not easy to get around here anymore. I had a couple of dry runs when I went to newsagents only to discover that they didn’t stock anything. I rarely go to where there are touristy shops that still stock such things.

When I could, I did indeed send to the people on my list - kittenblue, raventhief and Lee Q. I also received from 3 people, although I don’t have the cards in front of me at the moment. By a process of elimination, though, one of them must be yours. At first, I thought I had received from the same people I was supposed to send to. I received them at my work, where they remain at one of my offices (not the one I am posting from now) but I typically don’t check the Dope at work (this message is an exception).

I got your PMs, and responded to the first. It is apparent in that response that I assumed you were correct in expecting a postcard from me. It took me a while to figure out you were not on my list of sendees, which left me puzzled and I wanted to solve that mystery of why you thought you should have received something from me before I responded. I did not return to this thread because I did not realise the thread was also about receipts of cards - I thought the point of the exercise was the cards themselves.

Elendil’s Heir has summoned me to the thread, and I now see what has happened.

It is only now that I read EH’s post 184 that quotes Algher from 7 Feb explaining what has happened that this all makes sense.

It seems we have been at cross-purposes. You weren’t supposed to receive a card from me. I did send my cards (with images of my city and of local wild-life), although I now have no idea if they survived the Pacific ocean trip.

I wasn’t wilfully ignoring you Baker so much as failing to understand what was happening, and not understanding the social rules of the game and the thread. Remember, I knew I had sent my cards, and at first figured it was only a matter of time before you got yours, and later that there was some confusion about what was happening.

I apologise and deeply regret any clumsiness on my part that may have led you to feel upset. I see that I could have resolved this quickly had I properly understood in the first place that you were not supposed to get a card from me. Would that I had.

I also appreciate the tone of your requests of me - enquiring after my well-being. That was more polite than I can now see (from your perspective of thinking that I owed you a card) that I deserved. Thank you for that courtesy.

Once again, I apologise for my very substantial part in this miscommunication. I don’t have your address. Am happy to send you a card if you PM it to me.
