Three postcards today from Teuton: one from the House of Marbles marbles museum – very colorful; one with a dragon sculpture coming out of the ground near a Welsh castle; and one from the Woolly Monkey Sanctuary where the cows have infiltrated the poor monkeys’ home (It’s a kids crayon drawing. Or maybe it’s Teuton’s drawing.)
Thanks Teuton!
A very cool Star Wars Identities exhibit postcard from The Butterfly’s Ghost was in my mail when I got home a few minutes ago after a very long day at work. I’m impressed that she did some snooping in my post history to find a post of mine about seeing Episode IV when I was 4, and then chose to send this card, which makes this card even cooler
I’m not that good!
In the mail today: a card from The Butterfly’s Ghost…all the way from Germany! A four-paneled graphic with a 4 leaf clover, horseshoe, ladybug and a button. On the back it says *Glucksbringer [translated:Good luck charm] To Go.
In the note, The Butterfly’s Ghost said she liked the card because “Everybody needs good luck :D” Ain’t that the truth! Thanks!
Button? For good luck? Never heard that one.
No, buttons are not considered lucky in Germany - but pigs are. The picture is meant to be a pig’s snout.
A pig snout? Okay, I see that now. It looked like a button to me so I googled “buttons lucky” and came up with a bunch of hits.
Pigs are lucky in Germany? Well, you learn something new every day.
(for those following along at home, the postcard looks like this)
I got three more postcards!
One is from David A, a group picture of a football tean from 1911, at Norwich University. Interesting to see how gear has changed, and the faces are all white!
A card from Teuton depicts a “marble run”, gear in which marbles roll down elaborate tracks. Machines like that are fun to watch.
Another card from Teuton is a beautiful color picture of a goldfinch. I’m a member of the Audobon Society, although not particularly active, and this is one of my favorites. It’s my sister who knows birds at a glance.
I’m hopeful my other two recipients get theirs soon!
Got a beautiful fantasy card from The Butterfly’s Ghost today! This is it. Take a look at the other cards on the site if you have a few minutes - there’s some amazing and magical stuff there. I’m going to bookmark it.
Got a pretty card from Helena330 of the fountains at the Space Needle. I was there for that Fair, actually. Good memories!
I got a cool postcard from LeeQ today of adorable monsters - i mean dopers! Love it!
I thought that two of my recipients might have got theirs, but mail is weird. The third is going a lot farther, not surprised it hasn’t arrived.
Glad you liked it. My mom worked for Coca-Cola at the time and was one of the first people up the Space Needle.
My third person hasn’t posted that they’ve received their cards. I sent them two weeks ago.
I’ve had cards from four people, so I hope I haven’t missed thanking anyone.
Got a really pretty card of Crater Lake from Helena330 Saturday that I didn’t retrieve from the mailbox until today. One lake that is still on my “To Visit” list.
Today 4 received. 3 from **Teuton **and 1 from Helena330
From Teuton, one of the Plymouth Barbican which I learn is the western and northern sides of Sutton harbor in Plymouth England. Another of the House of Marbles in Devon England. Looks like this is a glass factory with all sorts of fun and games and all things glass. Then the 3rd is of a rather large dragon head. Looks like it lost the fight, and its head, and is lying on the ground all asunder.
From **Helena330 **of one of Crater Lake. Been there although that must have been 12 – 14 years ago.
I’ve been gone a almost a week and just back when I freed these cards from the cold and dark mail box. Thanks to all.
Missed the edit time window.
Another from **Helena330 **of Crater Lake. Different view than the other. Thanks again.
OT: this reminds me of the time I visited the Badlands of Montana, and I’m looking over the vast and beautiful canyons thinking of the millennia it must have taken for the sediments to be deposited in layers at the bottom of the ancient ocean, and then the millennia it took for plate tectonics to push the bottom of the ocean up into mountains, and then the millennia it took for the rivers to erode the beautiful striped canyons, when another visitor said to me: “I was here 20 years ago – it looked just the same.”
