DOOM is $15 from Gamersgate, cheaper than the $20 direct from Steam.
Abzu is $6 from Steam. Pretty much a “swimming simulator” but people I’ve known who’ve played it all say it’s worth the experience.
Dead Rising 3 is $9 if you like crushing zombie heads with improvised weaponry.
Ark: Survival Evolved hit $12, its all time low. If you want to get into it, I actually run a server for SDMB peoples. We’re just today changing maps and starting over, hoping to pick up some new players, so now is the perfect time to start.
Valkyria Chronicles is $5 at DLGamer, better than the $6.79 on Steam.
The Steam controller and link are on deep discount at Amazon.com (out of stock on Steam).
The link is just $20 and works amazingly well over a wired network, wireless will heavily depend on your setup and equipment. But if you want ot bring your PC gaming over to the TV, this little thing is fantastic. Supports a ton of different input devices too.
The steam controller is my go to these days too. Fantastic, versatile little gadget.
Civilization VI Deluxe is $42 at Gamersgate. It might be a price error since they have the base price at $60 when it probably should be $80 (based on Steam where it’s on sale for $68).
Anyone played Stronghold crusader? 1 is on sale for $2.49 and 2 is on sale for $5 ($6 for the special edition).
Wolfenstein: the New Order is on a one-day sale at Bundlestars for $5.79 plus I think you can use WINTER10 for another 10% off.
Great price and an awesome game (assuming you like shootin’ Nazis)
Missed my edit timer but they also have theBatman trilogy bundled for $10, Shadow of Mordor w/ DLC for $5 and the charming Eldritch in a bundle for $1.49 with three other games (Steam has it for the same price but without the additional games)
The Secret World has a complete pack for $17.69 through Funcom. All the DLC is 75% discounted on Steam but would still cost you $40 to buy it all so this is a pretty solid deal.
GOG already had their Winter Sale but now they’re in the middle of a [del]Goodbye[/del] Goodbuy 2016 sale. Continues for the next 45 hours.
About 28 hours left on the steam sale in case you want to take a second look and see if there’s a game worth buying at its sale price in there somewhere.
I am very tempted by No Man’s Sky.
It’s had some updates now, and is £24 in the sale (40% off). And I have £26 of Steam voucher left over from christmas.
Ok, here’s some good finds I’ve bought and played at least somewhat so far. In case someone’s looking for a few more games to buy…
I’ve gotten more games recently than are listed here, but these are the ones I’ve actually played so far, liked, and think they’re worth the money. They’re all on steam and I listed the current Steam sale prices.
$0.49** Clones** - A lemmings type game. Hey, forty-nine cents, you can’t beat that…
$0.49 EM. Shader Attack - A Breakout/Arkanoid clone.
$3.59 Flame Over - A Twin Stick Shooter, only you don’t fire guns at enemies, you shoot water around inside flaming buildings.
$4.99 - Flashback - One of my favorite console games back in the day, this is the original with a graphics update. The one thing is, there’s more combat in this one than the original and some people don’t like it as much. I love it, it’s the original game with modern graphics.
$1.49 Generic Space Shooter - I think it most resembles the original Asteroids, but it has great controls with an xbox 360 controller…
$4.99 Guns, Gore, and Cannoli - A Side scrolling beat em up. The Mafia vs. Zombies
$7.99 Helldivers - A Twin stick shooter. Complex - it uses every button on the Xbox 360 controller, and some multiple ways, but once you get used to it, a lot of fun. Multiplayer is also a blast, I am playing it with my son-in law who lives 1000 miles away, and we have a blast.
$2.09 Jets-n-Guns Gold - An awesome side scrolling shooter with tons of humor, tons of weapons, and you can sell the weapons back for what you paid, so that encourages experimentation with different weapon sets. Well worth 2 bucks IMO…
$1.49 Kung Fu Strike - The Warriors Rise - some levels are kind of an isometric with many enemies, some more like classic side scrolling fighting games. You really need to practice moves and techniques, this is not an easy game, but it’s a lot of fun, particularily if you liked karate games back in the day and/or fighting games.
$5.43 Leap of Fate - another twin stick shooter. Very colorful and intense. Haven’t spent too much time on it yet (tons of games to get to), but definitely seems very good so far.
$7.99-$10.49 Lords of Xulima - the 10.49 is the deluxe version that i wound up getting. An isometric RPG with very cool graphics and turn based combat.
$7.49 Neon Chrome - yet another twin stick shooter with graphics that sort of resemble the neon TRON movie back in the 80’s. A lot of fun
$3.99 Red Solistice - ANOTHER twin stick shooter. Very nice so far. Good graphics and very intense…
$5.09 Sheltered - Guide your family and help them survive in a bunker. Gather supplies and send out exploration parties. Resembles This War of Mine, but more of a quirky sense of humor. Speaking of which…
$3.99 This War of Mine. It takes place in a war zone, but you don’t play soldiers or engage in combat. You play 2-3 people who are hiding in an abandoned house, gather supplies, and send someone out at night to look for more supplies. Grim and dark, but a very very good game.
$0.89 Terra Lander - If you played the vector graphics arcade game Lunar Lander back in the day and liked it, get this. It’s basically a modern update to it, although it has the same vector graphics. More stuff to pick up/avoid, shooting enemies on the ground, etc.
I picked up a Steam Controller and Steam Link bundle for $50 (51% off, direct from Steam). Total impulse buy, and I normally hate controllers, especially for shooters, but I decided to give it a go.
Posting here since it’s sort of sale related and not worth its own thread:
I’d be curious to see ho many people used Steam in 2015 and in 2016. Not just are signed up, but are active users.
Is there a reason? I thought Steam was super popular. It’s the only one I use except Uplay(which I only use when required).
It’s still super popular, certainly more so than Uplay or Origin. The article points out that two of the year’s most popular games (Overwatch and Battlefield 1) weren’t on Steam at all. Could be that the new sales formats weren’t as successful in promoting purchases as they hoped.
The number of released games is somewhat misleading since a vast number of them are plain garbage. Digital Homicide (before Steam pulled them) was publishing tons of titles that were an embarrassment to shovelware, likely profiting more from the sale of Steam cards than from the games themselves (which were often given away via promotions).
I still love and use Steam, but I didn’t spend very much this year. There were a lot of things I wanted but not at a low enough price considering I still have games I bought LAST year that haven’t been played. I just started Deus Ex: Human Revolution last week.
