Winter Storm Late Jan 2010

In Durham NC, where the skies have clouded over and the temperature has dropped from 42 to 37 since lunchtime. We still have dipsticks posting to the WRAL article commentaries who are convinced that this is going to be a “dusting” or “just some cold rain” - it’s gonna suck to be them if they lose power and find themselves completely unprepared.

Heard that all the grocery stores have been utter chaos since yesterday. Glad I went in early before work!

I’m glad this one is bypassing me. We got more than our share of snow earlier this month, thank you very much.

Tournament? Golf tournament? LOL (probably a B-ball tournament).

School on Friday night? yecch.

Well it has been snowing hard since 11:30, put only about 1/2" accumulation thus far. My side street is froze over. My poor old bulldog would not get off the stoop when I put her out a few minutes ago. I guess i will have to go out with her so she can get some exercise.

Stay safe and warm everyone.

6-8" is a “dumping”? pfft, that’s nawthin…

up here in Maine, 6-8" is considered a dusting, a flurry perhaps, personally, any snowfall amount below 12" doesn’t even register on my radar as a significant amount

Will it actually hit VA? I was going to go out tonight but maybe I should stay in if the storm is going to be really bad. Everything looks fine, if a bit overcast here right now…

I’m in Southwest MO. There was less than an inch on the ground this morning. Snowing hard now ( 3:20 PM) and up to about 4 inches.

You have to consider that we only have two or three snow plows south of the Mason Dixon and our idea of an ice scraper is whatever credit card is on top in the wallet.

Maybe not that bad, but the digging-out capabilities here in Raleigh are significantly less than what we had in Maryland where I grew up, and that wasn’t exactly Snow Central.

Over here in the Bootheel, it has been snowing hard all afternoon, and we got about 2". No snow plow has gone down my street yet. I took my bulldog for a short walk. To the end of the block and back, and if it were snowing much harder, it would have been blizzard conditions. I could barely see my house from 150 yds away.

Originally this was going to hit us pretty hard, but looks like it has swung south. (Hooray!)

Yep, 6-8" is not a lot (of snow, that is, you pervert) but when you don’t have the right equipment, it is paralyzing.

Flogging a dead horse: In Central Arkansas, Snow Removal is pickup truck full of sand with three guys with shovels in front.

It’s snowing in Wake Forest!

We have flakes here, too! It’s coming down hard and we have some pile-up on the cars, but nothing on the road, yet.

I’m in Chapel Hill, and I thought it wasn’t supposed to start for another couple hours, but I looked out the window after reading this, and yeah, the ground is already covered.

I’m pretty bitter about this storm - it cancelled something I was looking forward to, and I just hate snow in general. I grew up in Pennsylvania (just moved to NC last summer), so I’m used to snow, but I don’t like it. I was in PA for the December snow storm, so this will be my first chance to see how people down here deal with snow.

Nothing yet in Gates County.

We have flakes…even in the summer.

Noting that Weather Forecasting is not a Science, but a Black Art, it has been forecast that Central Arkansas will receive a dusting of an inch or two of snow, Northern Arkansas three or four inches, and the South doodly squat.
There is no precipitation at the moment.

Big, fluffy snowflakes falling West of Little Rock at 8:45 CST.
Long Island Mrs. Plant declares them to be “fine”.
I don’t know if that means “Real New York Snow” fine, or “Go to Hell” fine.

I’m in SW Missouri and I think the majority of the storm has moved off to the east of here, with only some more light snow coming. Looking out my window, it seems like we have 4-5 inches of powdery snow on the ground. Not too bad. In any case, I stocked up on knitting supplies.

Nothing here in Central Kentucky. I think it’s passed to the south of here. I guess I’ll find out in the morning!
